Re: Expresso

Another thing: Although it is certainly enticing to have your coffee brewed and ready when you wake up in the morning, it's probably not the best thing in the world for the taste of the coffee itself. Quite a lot of the wonderful aromas and such of the coffee leave within the first minute (or so) af...

Re: Expresso

In practicing for the Southeast Regional Barista Competition (yes, I competed), there was one night where I probably consumed a total of 25 shots of espresso, a sip here and a sip there. By the end of the night, I could hardly stand I was shaking so violently. So now, when I'm tasting espresso, I sp...

Re: Expresso

Super-automatic machines (a la Starbucks) do not make good espresso. Let me amend that for you: Do not go to Starbucks if you want to taste real coffee - ever. djm I agree, but I work in the industry and feel obliged to be a bit less... Oh, who cares? Starbucks is bad coffee. There, I said it. And ...

A little video for all the Moka Pot users out there, done by the 2007 World Barista Champion and all-around wonderful person James Hoffman:

Re: Expresso

FUN ESPRESSO FACTS!: 1. Espresso should not be bitter. If you're drinking bitter espresso, you're in the wrong shop. 2. Espresso is not a roast. Espresso is a way of making coffee. Typically coffee intended for espresso is roasted darker than normal (because the process accentuates the bright, acidi...

Re: Shamrock Shakes

I refuse to comment on McDonald's coffee or their silly McCafe commercials.

I will say this: I have never had good coffee at a restaurant. I have been to very snooty, fine-dining places, and the coffee is invariably mediocre. Why doesn't anyone care about decent coffee?

Re: Shamrock Shakes

There are a few ways to do iced coffee, most of them are very bad. My favorite method is what's called Japanese Iced Coffee, where you just brew a more concentrated coffee over ice. It takes a little bit to get your parameters correct for that, but you preserve the flavor profile of the coffee. Easi...

Re: Twitter

Link exchange and discussion require a more interactive venue that a spiral notebook. Yes, and that is what I asserted makes twitter interesting. Sure, you can write in some journal that you found a video of an extremely effective toilet today, but then it ends there. On twitter, you post that vide...

Re: Twitter

As I said, I don't use twitter. But, if anyone is actually interested in finding out what it's about, rather than spouting confused and silly comments about it in ignorance, here's an interesting thing . Or you could, you know, just join and have a look around . No one's stopping you, and you're not...

Re: Twitter

Seriously, have you guys ever read any twitter feeds? I mean, I don't do the twitter myself, but it's not (entirely) about updating everyone regarding your latest bowel movement. Think of it this way: it's microblogging. Its a place to quickly and easily write down anything you might find interestin...
