Not mentioned above and perhaps obvious, but important: In nearly all cases, the #1 factor behind the sound produced is the performer. This is most obvious when you listen to a recording with the same performer playing both cheap and "high-end" whistles. They sound different, yes, but both...

Accompaniment is kind of like nude photography: When it's done really, really well, people call it "tasteful." (In order to distinguish it from the other kind....)

To the general public, concertinas are unknown, whereas accordions are actively disliked. :D

There's a similar story about Frankie Kennedy using a car horn as impromptu regulators to accompany a tune on the radio.

#3 - So you start playing a tune at a slow or medium tempo and someone jumps in and tries to bring the tune at 2-3 times the speed at which you started it. Please folks, if you have bad rhythm, don't bring people down to Hell with you... While it's true that this sort of thing is generally done by ...

I haven't heard Cooney's version, but Cherish the Ladies have a nice version of a song by that name on Woman of the House. You can hear a clip of the song at Amazon, but mind your keyboards; Heidi Talbot's voice may make you drool.

Re: Casey Burns FF owners?

Anybody who has one care to comment? Have you enjoyed it? Are you still playing it? Was it easy to play? Did it help you learn being ergonomic and all that? Do you think you sound nice playing it? Do you play it alone or with or for other people? Do you play only fast/ornamenty stuff or do you play...

That's the problem I have with the internet, nobody knows you're a dog. I'm pretty certain that when I post recordings people pretty much figure out that I'm a (musical) pup. Of course, I don't claim to be an authority, but even if I did I think people would figure out that it was hot air. We can a...

Here's what's worked for me. You can take it if it suits your personality or leave it if not. Pick one place in one tune to try an ornament. If you have a teacher, (s)he can help; if not, listen to a recording and pick something which sounds nice. Work on the ornament in the context of the tune unti...
