Re: Recommend whistle in C with 'pure' tone?
Good points - and I play ocarina too, and are familiar with the models you mention. Most ocs retain a sense of 'hollowness' in their sound that I don't get with whistles though. I think if I were pressed to define "pure" for me, I would say an absence of the sound of rushing air concurrent...

Re: Recommend whistle in C with 'pure' tone?
If I get some Killarneys it will be an expensive rediscovery, but I just have to look at a concertina and then it seems cheap. In fact I need to get my Rochelle listed for sale, that will fund a few whistles.

Re: Recommend whistle in C with 'pure' tone?
Hi Nano and Byll! I was glad to see activity still on the old boards here, even if it seems a little quieter than the chaotic heyday of Way Back When. Thanks for the recommendations, Byll! Jsluder is setting me up with a Freeman-tweaked, but I'm still interested in hearing about makers. I'll look in...

Recommend whistle in C with 'pure' tone?
Hello! Long time poster, long time in absentia too. A second hello to anyone here who remembers me from Long Ago. Most of my whistles are in D and I don't seem to have any Cs that I can locate. I have been away from Irish music for 10+ years and am finding that the makers I knew who made non-chiffy,...

Re: Coda CDC whistle?
I have the Coda EDC as well as the older Mountain Ocarinas and some other two chamber ocs. They're definitely outdoor instruments as they can be quite loud. The EDC has a muting option for quiet practicing, much like blowing over the fipple. A maker in the UK, Pure Ocarinas, makes D and G tuned sing...

WTB: Laughing Whistle, LOW D (or others)
I used to have a wide bore, aluminim non-telescoping Low D laughing whistle by Noah Herbison. I sold it to raise money for grad school. As decisions go, it wasn't a good one. Looking to buy one again. Got one you'd like to sell? Did you buy mine? (I'll also buy any other Laughing Whistles you may ha...

FS: 12 button Mini Wheatstone English (Oregon USA)
I have decided to sell my mini Wheatstone which I purchased about 10-12 years ago in England. I bought it out of a love for miniature instruments, but I am an Anglo player and never really got the hang of playing this one. It is in excellent condition barring the following two details: 1) The box it...

Re: One Chiffer plus One Chiffer equals...?
Is that a very large whistle, or a very small baby?! That would be a Low D. I didn't want to give him something small enough that he could actually find the end of it to put in his mouth before I could take the picture. And he's very strong...he's holding that thing up by himself, and it's metal. I...

Re: Terrible Dream
The other night I dreamed I was playing my low whistle (but like a flute for some reason) and the bottom notes weren't making any sound. I commented to the musician next to me that something was wrong with it. He said "I don't hear anything wrong." Then I played in the second octave and th...
