That's it! Thank you Anna, Rich, Emma, I should have a stock to give away on such occasions, and Clarke Sweetones are the ideal candidate. Appealing to kids, reliably consistent... plus I don't like them. I've had a couple and that's what ended up happening to them, I gave them away. Montreal int...

The maintenance man was just here doing some repair work in my new apartment. His four-year old daughter wandered into a room and among the various unpacked cardboard boxes lying around she found one open with a bunch of whistles in it. She came rushing back brandishing a fistful of Generations sayi...

If the suggestions above don't provide enough material (!) here are a couple of others. Dave Mallinson Publications in England have put out good books of standards, including "100 Essential Irish Session Tunes", "100 Enduring Irish Session Tunes" and "100 Evergreen Irish Ses...

Hey Claudine, Nobody's rushed to answer your question, so I'll try. I hesitated because my information is a bit out of date. I have been to "Willie week" 3 times, in 1985, 1993 and 1994. It is quite an experience. I never bothered to register for classes, except in the last year, when I si...

I saw Ronan Browne play a solo concert this year. Of course he played mainly pipes, but he performed a couple of selections on whistle using a Clarke C (traditional) and a cheap cane low whistle pitched, I would guess, in about G.

I was wondering what and how did [Clive] execute that embellishment. It seems like a triple tongue but I can't be sure... Hi Eldarion, I'm sure Clive won't mind my answering on his behalf. The ornament in question is indeed a tongued triplet. The easiest way to execute this is to make a "ta-ka...

Tephillah, I'd steer well clear of double jigs such as The Kesh and The Blarney Pilgrim if I were you. In my experience double jigs are not good tunes for beginners because although they will find these tunes attractive and fun to play, they will most likely not get a grip on the rhythm. I think a w...

This is a great new forum. It may have slightly fewer features than Coolboard but the speed is great, not to mention the freedom from ads. I'm temporarily without my normal high-speed Internet connection and with a 56K modem this is way faster than Coolboard at 900K. So I'd like to add to the many e...

StevieJ-when you see a Generation on sale, and try it out, what do you do and what kinds of things do you listen for? Do you play scales or certain tunes? How do you know what can be fixed with a little tweaking and what is beyond tweaking? No, nothing special. I start by giving them the 5-second l...

Talking bout my Generations I'm with you on this one Rich. After a year of two or trying and searching, I've given up on the idea of finding an expensive whistle that offers significant advantages over my favourite cheapies, Generations. It does feel Zen, to have travelled the expensive road ...
