Re: Rudall & Rose patent head flute in G&H auction
for those who care.....the actual serial number (be sure to copy this down!)....is 4417. It is the same flute from the batch that is 4411, in the Dayton Miller collection, which has a patent and regular headpiece. https://www.loc.gov/resource/dcmflute.0365.0 A number of large-holed Rudalls with Pate...

Re: Olwell cocuswood six key D flute on E-bay
the little RB stamped in red on the edge of the case lid should have been a dead giveaway as to its seller.
Glad he got a nice price.
this one, aesthetically, is a dead ringer for my own that Pat made custom, including the first use of the stylized rings, a lovely touch.

Re: Rudall & Rose patent head flute in G&H auction
4117 resides with a player in Canada and was once owned by our own Arbo on this board, fwiw. based on the details of my research, the likely serial number, considering the style of the flute and its patent head, is possibly 4107 or even more likely 4112. Perhaps as high as 44xx or so. a perfectly fi...

Re: Rudall & Rose 1305 on E-bay
Has no one noticed the description doesn't give the Piazza address for the maker's mark? used to be you would all be skewering the poor fellow listing it. This would also be the first extant Rudall with a banded embouchure.....btw. According to the Rudall & Rose Catalogue, that is. just sayin. :...

Re: Hope no one bought this Rudall.....
I'd be interested to see an example of one with the flat key cup on the Eb, Jem. I've only seen plugs for the Eb when the rest of the body are flat cups. The footjoint is likely a Rudall, from the viewpoints......and it's unlikely the Eb key is the replacement since the seat is very different (and I...

Re: Chris Norman Flutes
The #742 that he models after is his own original boxwood from the Man With the Wooden Flute recording, and copied by Cameron. BTW....there's a great photo of a young Linda Hickman floating around of late with Celtic Thunder (w/ Tony Demarco) holding and playing that very flute, c.1970s. She eventua...

Re: What you seek from a flute/whistle lesson
very funny, Charles! lol happy to trade tidbits. Thanks again to all. I handled the three classes I gave differently than in the past, trying some new ideas and techniques, and by the feed-back I'd received (there were about 5 in each class), the methodology was a good one. I think I managed to chal...

Re: What you seek from a flute/whistle lesson
These were all inspiring responses, and though I've been teaching/tutoring for going on 30+ years now (actually nearly 40 as I think it through), I'm always enthused and very much like to hear people's take on the proposition of learning and teaching, though I will say I actually prefer to call it c...

What you seek from a flute/whistle lesson
On the (very likely) off-chance that I have asked this before..... I'm interested to know what you seek from a flute/whistle lesson when you go to a festival or workshop. 90+percent of them seem to be simply someone teaching a tune, which to me is not accomplishing very much other than getting a tun...

Re: Fife thread
i have lost my high-frequency hearing in my left ear from all the years of fifing (I haven't played in years....but the residual remains) long before ear protection was the thing.
Use it and save yourself the troubles that come later.

FS: Keyless Olwell Bb
I am considering selling my blackwood Olwell low Bb to help finance a home remodeling project that's teetering a little too close to my budget limit for comfort. eBay would have the broadest appeal, of course, but would siphon off a good deal of the $ from what I expect this flute would bring, so th...

Update on Deirdre Havlin (now Deirdre Tasker)
Apparently her little fellow, Theo, is a TV star (Emmerdale) in the UK at the ripe age of <3mos old! http://www.ballymoneytimes.co.uk/news/soap-star-1-2754072 Neat photo, too, of Dee with the baby. Another story, too, showing how terrific a mum she is! WTG Dee! http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/life...
