Re: Dealing with a previous owners oil choice
Does your wood whistle have metal ferrules on it? I understand the main thing about using oil on a wood instrument is to be sure it is not a food grade oil that could go rancid. I use olive oil and almond oil. And sometimes have used both on one whistle with no problems. The oil is to keep moisture ...

Re: Finding a wooden whistle head to fit a sweetheart fife
Dear chums, I have had no success selling a Sweetheart fife (Bolivian Rosewood). I know they can be 'converted to' and (were even sold with) whistle heads. Any tips? Cheers, F Is this fife one part with embouchure hole and tone tube? Or is there a tuning slide between the embouchure hole and tone t...

-- LOW D TWEAKED GENERATION = $99.00 (inquire about international postage rates) This is a quiet low whistle with comfortable air requirement and a rich, velvety tone. Nicely balanced between octaves. Many have commented that the upper register is especially pleasing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Re: Making soprano D whistle - need help
It may have developed a crack in the tone tube and is leaking. Did you seal the ID of the tone tube with a non food grade bore oil? Almond oil and olive oil or wood wind bore oil from a music store. Important that it is non food grade. If it is a food grade oil it could turn rancid. Use a small pen ...

Re: Blade width VS Bore width
Loren mentioned O'Riordan whistles. They have a narrow blade that is flat, and a 'D' shaped windway that narrows in height as it reaches the opening, an isn't restrictive at all. The same construction was used by David Boisvert in his Greenwood whistles. Compared to the mouth of a Grinter that is q...

Re: Inexpensive conical whistles
On the note of shaw whistles, has anyone here used them and whats your opinion? I was looking them up a while back because they are affordable, and just look cool. But from my research I read that the tuning/intonation and air req might be questionable. So I'm curious for more (and more reliable) i...

Re: Tin whistles in the wind
That is correct. I tried some different wind shields around the fipple window and when they worked the tone went flat.Peter Duggan wrote:If it's close enough to shield, it would probably also flatten the pitch.Nanohedron wrote:Slide the right size over the mouthpiece so the flare shields the windway, and it could work.

Re: Inexpensive conical whistles
Hi, just wondering what are the choices for conical bore whistles I was also wondering if there is a hack to put some other type of block into the fipple, I understand that there is basically no way to tune a one piece conical style whistle, Thank you, Lisa Tommy makes conical whistles from copper ...
