Re: Recommended affordable beginner trad flutes (high and low)?

[Thread revival. - Mod]

Just to say I continue to be surprised by my Copley delrin. Simple, well-made, easy to hold, in tune, lovely tone and good volume. The delrin tuning slide works fine.

Re: Olivewood

Appreciate these posts! And here we have a
comparison between two identically similar flutes from the same maker, except one is blackwood and one is olivewood, played by a pro. He appears to prefer the latter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-IwJItkcXQ

Re: Olivewood

Thanks! From your post it sounds like olivewood is lighter than blackwood. 'As for tone, I've never played two identical flutes that differed only in the wood they were made from, so I can't comment on that.' I've never played two identical flutes at all, but I can generally tell 'under my ear' whet...

Olivewood

I need info about Olivewood as a flute wood. I've never seen an Olivewood flute, much less played one. I've played only blackwood, cocus, and sometimes boxwood flutes. Can someone knowledgeable fill me in on its properties? Thanks

Re: Flute Plethora Road Trip to Northern Colorado

Been a lot in Greeley, because my late sister lived there, but this all before the IFS existed. Done a good deal of business with it, buying and selling online. It's a positive boon to the fluting community, some lovely instruments pass through, Blayne is ever helpful.

Re: Why One Key?

All of the above, and this. These flutes ARE de facto Baroque flutes. Baroque music and much classical sound brilliant on these flutes. Bach is God singing. The Eb key enables you to play a much wider range of music. I play a baroque flute as well as antique rudalls, and I agree the second sentence...

Re: FS: Bryan Byrne Keyless Flute

I owned one of Bryan's keyless flutes for a long while. His workmanship is beautiful, the flute was more comfortable in my hands than any other I've played. It sounded beautiful and people who heard me play a good deal said it was the best sounding flute I played (serious competition here). I sold t...

Me neither. I'm playing keyed flutes or I'd snap it up.

I am playing a good deal of baroque and classical on simple system flutes, 6 key and 8 key. Really works well.

Re: Chromatic harmonica for Celtic and Baroque?

Let me put my question this way. I play Irish flute and I play just about everything on it. Celtic, Baroque, blues, jazz, rock..... What key chromatic harmonica comes closest to duplicating the Irish flute? Kind regards

Re: Blackwood flute bitter taste

I would stop playing that flute, lest an allergy is developing. Alternatively a strip of scotch tape or transparent packing tape, just below the embouchure hole, creasing the bottom, may give protection. But I would deal with this. OUnce of prevention, pound of cure.
