Re: Am I out of tune? ;)

An additional problem we flute players might have. Fiddle players probably often come from a background of having had at least a reasonable amount of formal training as classical violin players. As that I guess they would get coaching / training for tuning skills. Fluters are often have to figure th...

Re: How many keys do you have? And how many do you use?

Main flute now is 6 keyed , with no low c or c#. The only 8 key flutes I've had have been antiques. They have been difficult or impossible to get low c and c#. They have been a bit leaky on these keys or the linkage set up. Is it common to be able to get these to sound reliably and quickly for fast ...

Ear plug for tuning sensistivity

The post on ear plugs has prompted me to ask a different question related to earplugs. I have recently tried plugging my left ear with cotton wool at sessions where there are tuning issues going on. It is my perception that this accentuates any issues. Say a guitar a touch flat and a whistle a touch...

Re: Jimmy Noonan's boxwood Rudall?

Ah yes a new documentary that I have already seen. I hope Bryan Rooney gets back to full health soon. He is another one of my favourites. A great documentary showing many greats from the London seen. Paul Gallagher, another mighty flute player, is seen but sadly not really heard which is a real sham...

Re: Jimmy Noonan's boxwood Rudall?

Many thanks Steampacket for posting the link on your o.p.
Loved the flute playing on the video. I hadn't heard of Jimmy Noonan before. What a smashing player!
I'll look out for his two recordings.

Re: Rudall/Rose FS at Gardiner-Houlgate Auction

Radcliff, I'm am guessing you sent the seller a question through ebay?
Of course it would be difficult for the seller to reply if they still have it as if ebay pick it up they might take action on the seller?

Tuner with fiddle and flute

This is a quoat for a post by keylessflute from the topic on self taught folk musicians. :- Training of your ears wouldn't be a bad idea. If you happen to have a keyboard or a piano at home, play notes with the right hand and try to hit the exact tone on the flute. Of course, this would only work wi...

Re: Rob Forbes Delrin Pratten

Hi Arbo
Yes Forbes Delrin are great flutes. Pratten based but voicing is flexible. I have been playing my keyless as my main flute but am in the process of swapping back to a Rudall based flute. Fully agree with Cathy's praise for Forbes.
