Re: 5 great fluters on one web page...
I found that there are two albums from Peter Horan on iTunes. I was wondering if anyone knows of any albums from these older flute players? Thanks. I presume it's the albums with Gerry Harrington on iTunes? There's an older album Peter did with Fred Finn, Music of Sligo , but it is wildly out of pr...

Re: French Canadian Flute?
PS When I went to order the Billette family album just now, I checked on and then also ordered the new Genticorum album, "Avant l’orage", which I believe is the first of theirs with Nicholas Williams.

Re: Qu
Their original flute player was Alexandre de Grosbois-Garand, who now plays in the "electro-trad" band Mélisande. He plays flute with them, sings, and plays electric bass and keyboards. Nicholas Williams replaced Alexandre in Genticorum. Perhaps worth noting here that Nicholas Williams ha...

Very sad that I cannot make the workshop, hoping to squeeze the concert into my completely packed weekend.

Re: Flute Geezers tape
I have that recording, but never heard the name John Carlos before today. Not that much online. Can anyone fill in the details? I'm guessing @carloslarge from Roscommon might know something more. All I know is that I love John Carlos's playing. He'd be one of flute players I'd be most interested in...

Re: 5 great fluters on one web page...
Great set of flute players there! Looked at the fiddle list as well, and when it listed two fiddlers older than Michael Coleman, I told myself, "This is Jeff Ksiazek's doing." And while I don't see any credit on the fiddle page, he is indeed credited on the flute page.

Re: want to buy harry bradley the first od may cd
(Checks CD Baby page.) Wait, it's unaccompanied and features Sean Gavin on some tracks? Why have I been letting this sit on my Amazon Wishlist for years? (Edited after looking at my MP3 directory tree and discovering what else I have by Bradley:) And it's the guy who did the Errant Elbow podcast, wi...

Re: want to buy harry bradley the first od may cd
It's definitely still available as an MP3 album from Amazon.com. They also seem to have someone who claims to be selling the CD, albeit for nearly $30.

Re: What tunes requiring keys are played at your local sessi
Ah yes, not owning any E whistles, I hadn’t thought of that approach. I don't want to stop people from getting keys on their flutes, but IMO a good low E whistle is absolutely fantastic for dealing with tunes in A major or E major. It has that great mellow low whistle sound, but it's noticeably eas...

Re: What tunes requiring keys are played at your local sessi
Taking the question as "what tunes requiring notes outside of the D & G scales are...", I think the list for our local session is Frank's Reel MacArthur Road Margaret's Waltz Crested Hens (I actually usually play the first three on low E whistle, which works perfectly.) (And now I want...

Also, this now has me wondering about optimizing the notes on your box to make a specific set of fleadh tunes just a bit easier to play. Sounds nuts....

Re: Single Row Melodeon - do you play one?
As I understand it, a "melodeon" for the purposes of Fleadh competitions is a single-row, diatonic accordion tuned like a Richter harmonica with multiple stops and with two bass/chord buttons on the other side. There are other conceivable layouts for a single-row accordion, so the rule is...

Re: Single Row Melodeon - do you play one?
We've got two Hohner one row, four stop boxes, an older G (1950s, maybe?) and a new D purchased when Hohner announced they weren't going to make them any more last year. Though the last two years I've been mostly playing on my C#/D. (I will admit that my understanding of the names of the instruments...
