Help with blocking Telemarketers calls
Hey people, I know I don't get down South here in the Pub very much, as I'm not a chatty guy, so maybe that is why I really think I have found GOLD!, in something that helps eliminate a lot of unwanted telemarketing calls on your home, or even cell phone (from what I understand), and it's free too! ...

Re: Rediscovering the flute
Hey Erwin, I say play what you have and if you are enjoying it, all the better. When finances allow, there's nothing to beat the simple system conical flute for that reedy tone, but that can come later. I started on the low whistle, moved fairly quicikly to simple system (keyless) flute, and then bo...

Re: Hot Delrin!
I am far from a scientist myself, but I believe, that a car's interior gets hotter than the trunk, because the glass of the windows makes it so. I also don't know how much difference there is, but I would think it is a considerable one. We put all things we want to keep cooler in the trunk, and we d...

Re: Can anyone identify this low whistle?
The contours look like the Overton/Kerry Pro, but with those dents, it looks like it's too thin walled to be either. So, it could be a knock-off. Kerry Pros were either marked Pro (early), or Kerry Pro (later). I wouldn't take the gamble myself because it appears too thin walled, and it also has a h...

Re: Phil's new video-lots of demos and comparisons
Finally, I got my wish, and the pony express rider just dropped my V4 Low D fixed off today! Must have thrown a shoe or four, or something, but it was worth waiting for even if it did take 18 days to get here from the time Phil mailed it! It's a very responsive whistle with lots of character to the ...

Re: Bernard Overton Low D?
Looks like this one that The Irish Flute Store has had for a long time, which is said to be a Chieftain (or maybe more correctly made by Phil Hardy anyway). Don't think Chieftains every looked like that, except for the Kerry Pros, which were marked as such. He made Overtons for a while before that, ...

Re: Syns?
Wow, a wild set Earl, thanks for posting it! I don't even usually like high whistles, but after listening to it, I've got to acknowledge the great playing and presence of your whistle in this performance! I guess Paddy just gave in to the excellent play at hand, and took a back seat to the top dog a...

Re: Phil's new video-lots of demos and comparisons
I bought his NR fixed low D and his Overton Eb from the previous video. They are both great whistles. Especially the NR. Hmm, congrats! Glad to hear you like yours. I am still waiting (not too patiently, I might add), for mine~11 days later! I had hoped it would be here by now. It will probably sho...

Re: Recommending M&E Flutes
Hello T, and welcome! Nice to hear that you have found a friend in M&E flutes as well! That's all I play now, just one flute. After trying most of them, I finally settled on an Ebonite keyless M&E, which suits me just fine. I really like the tone too-nicer to my ears than Delrin, and seeming...

Re: McGee Rudall/Pratten set-ever see this before?
I guess it is weird to many here, but I still think it has validity. No doubt there are differnces in either that make them attractive, or useful in different situations. The Pratten McGee I had was wonderful-a great voice and presence, and easy to play, for me. Though I would have welcomed a bit mo...

McGee Rudall/Pratten set-ever see this before?
http://www.irishflutestore.com/mcgee-rudall-pratten-perfected-set I was just perusing the Irish Flute Store, and noticed this pretty neat and unique set (to me). Sure would finally answer that age old question many have wondered about-what's the difference between a Rudall and Pratten?! No doubt the...

Re: Garry Somers Practice Flute
Not wanting to nitpick - I'm sure it's a nice instrument - but what is a "practice flute" supposed to be? Or maybe it's just a flute you can start on for a reasonable price, without investing $300-$500 to find out how you do, or like the flute. And then you practice, practice, practice......

Re: Phil's new video-lots of demos and comparisons
Edited my last post to add the particulars of the offerings in the video, to whomever might be interested. And, in case you might be wondering; I'm not getting anything out of this other than helping others find their dream whistles. Seems I'm a hardyholic in my choices....can't help that, it's just...

Good to see you're still hanging around, Cyril! Enjoy your flute!GoldTop wrote:Thanks for the info. Interesting.
I recently got Garry Somers Pratten flute and absolutely love it. Thinking about his Rudall model or the practice.
Best, Cyril
