Yes, Cillian's are one of my favorite Low D's that I have played. I now have the modern version, made by Maurice Reviol. It's essentially the same, with some updates to the design, but very similar.

OK, thanks for the boost guys-now I don't feel quite as decrepit as I did before your posts-and knowing I'm not alone in my feelings helps me feel a little better about it. Of course, if I had that blaster ray that made them all disappear at will, it would make me feel a lot better.

Yeah, but you can still feel the timbre and power in those low notes, and it sounds great to my ears, even with the reverb.

I have a Chieftain low B that sounds very similar-it's a blast to play and experience those unique low tones in a whistle!

I share your pain of high notes and loud noises, like fire engine sirens, etc. That is probably why I never got along with the high D's much, unless I muted them with blue tack, among other methods of quieting whistles. Very interesting! Seems my NR is the 3rd rendition. The beak on mine looks totally different, especially from the end view. The windway on mine is much smaller, and the beak is flattened, and curved, left to right. No doubt all the variations makes it harder to key in on a model, but thanks to Phil ...

Yes, Bernard, Colin and Phil were making Overtons at one point, but they all had flat ground sides on the head, as opposed to the round profile of the Chieftains, which was his design. It does resemble a Chieftain, but it appears that the beak is too short, for either the OS (old style), or NR (new range) that came a little later.
