Re: Sightreading and piping
MIDI = EVIL If I'm sufficiently interested in a tune to want to learn it and can't find it in my library, I buy it. Basically, I think a good tune by a great player is well worth 99 cents. As for the Session ... it has many great features. But I've come across a fair bit of stuff transcribed by well...

It might be a bit too far to go on a daily or weekly basis, but Jerry O'Sullivan is somewhere in your neck of the woods. Oh to be so lucky

P.S. He's an ex-GHBer himself, so could probably offer some insights there, too.

Re: Sightreading and piping
Over the years, a number of people have worked very hard at transcribing various great pipers' settings of tunes, and transcribing them well. With all the resources at hand -- many of which are mentioned above -- I think it's a shame not to utilize them if you can read. I eagerly look forward to the...

Re: Reed Makers: Any Recommendations?
I got a spare "Midwestern winter" reed from Justin Rosander at Wild Goose Reeds. He did a great job. If Bruce is too busy, you might want to get in touch with Justin. https://wildgoosereeds.wordpress.com/ In Ireland, you might want to try Martin Gallen at Banba Designs. I haven't got any r...

Re: Long time Highland Piper, starting off on Uilleann adventure
The difference I seem to pick out in many HP/UP crossover players is the phrasing. It's totally different to my ear in uilleann piping, and it seems many of the GHB players I've heard tend to skip over that aspect, choosing instead to focus on mechanics and technique. Often I hear great control, tec...

Re: 1918 sheet music for Danny Boy
Looks like the Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) has a good clean copy online: http://www.itma.ie/digitallibrary/book/danny-boy-weatherly There's a little icon near the lower left of the main page that will magically reveal all the other pages. Good luck! ---- Later addition, aka News from the ...

Re: Digital Download Available for the Long Hard Road
Serendipity! I was just listening to my copy this weekend (it came up on shuffle), and was thinking how great it is, and wondering how you're doing, 'cos it's been a while since we've heard from you. :-) Happy news. For folks who are newish to the board ... there is some *seriously* top-notch flute ...

Re: 2 questions
Sounds like a perfect plan. Get a few tunes into your ear/under your fingers on the whistle, and that may make it easier to focus on the embouchure thing because at least your fingers will have a vague idea or where to go. So have fun, and don't worry about the wait. You'll have years to bemoan your...
