I agree in respect of the suckitudiness of this thread. I understand the need for debate (at times heated) amongst the members of any community, but 'old lags' often get so caught up in the moment they often forget the 'public' nature of boards like this one, and the deleterious effect that such out...

I'm a rank beginner. Literally started two weeks ago. I played guitar (rhythm) 20 years ago and the band did rather well on the local scene in spite of the fact I couldn't read a dot. Now, at 43, I'm taking up the whistle. After two weeks, I have a repertoire of about 4 songs, including a version of...

Isn't there something about 'gain'. i.e. you have to get something material or financial out of the performance. If you're not getting paid, or doing it for a whistle/meal/board etc then I don't think copyright laws apply, otherwise we'd all be locked up for singing/humming/whistling while we walke...

I saw some really beautiful, and very expensive native American whistes at the Far Look Lodge at Mesa Verde this summer. I played a couple to hear the sound and they were pleasant sounding but not instruments you would want to play with any speed. They looked more like objects of art than real inst...
