I'm no expert and haven't played a Dixon. But I wonder if a Mack Hoover whitecap might give you what you want. Also you might really enjoy an O'Brien Rambler. For cheaper whistles, have you tried a Sweettone? A tweaked one would probably be a better bet. Look below on the forum in the recent post on...

McGoldrick's Trip to Brittany Jig
Hi All, I really likw the jig that Phil Hardy played to demonstrate the GFM soprano D, found at this link: http://kerrywhistles.com/movies/Garnite_Falls_high_Da.wmv I asked Phil by e-mail about the tune, and he told me the jig is named "Trip to Brittany" and is by Mike McGoldrick. But hw a...

I'm not on the whistle tour, but I became interested in the Granite Falls instruments because of Wanderer's review of an earlier instrument. In the meantime I noticed the GFM European whistle tour posts, which showed some range of opinions. I got my D soprano whistle last week, so I thought I would ...

THANKS, The Sassafrass rolls look wonderful, and the post that I remember on this board may have been made by them. But I remember a picture that had a wide leather flap that would fold over the exposed tops of the whistles before rolling or folding. Perhaps it was a special order from Sassafrass. P...

who makes leather/cloth whistle roll-type cases?
Some time ago one of the posts on this board had a picture of a lovely whistle roll-style case, made partly of leather. I have run a bunch of searches and can't seem to find that post. Who makes nice cases?
Thanks,
Oreo Phil

Phil, Thanks so much for your site. Because I have a slow dial-up connection, I am only just beginning to understand the depth of what you have supplied for us in the videos. At times, I can get to a fast connection. Would it be possible for you to make a link somewhere so that people could download...

Review of Phil Hardy's CD: Whistle Graffiti
Review of Whistle Graffiti, produced in 2005, by Phil Hardy and others (including Tony Hinnigan). Track 1: Wainu, Bolivian Trad. Really nice swing. Would make great dance music. Nice variations in what instruments are playing. Sort of sounds like a laid back tune that might have been played in the s...

I agree with nice things said about Mack Hoover's whistles, O'Brien's, and Syn Whistles. The Syn line is one of the best ways to stay in your price range and get lots of keys. But for completeness, I would like to add Granite Falls Whistles. I just ordered one. Haven't played one yet. But check out ...

Copper vs Brass Preference?
I was interested to see that in a recent thread, ( http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?=33350&sid=c07b05aabe864163afe994ffc232660e ) brass was prefered over aluminum. I wonder now what the prevailing opinion would be for Copper vs Brass whistles. Let's confine the opinion to soprano whistles...
