The "O'Mealy" set that Dr. Glands acquired was not an O'Mealy set. It was made by William Hamilton. It is a very interesting piece in its own right, but not by R. L. O'Mealy. I have to agree with Sean the Piper: If the set is in California now, the man to look at them would be Ted Anderson...

Mr. Uillmann's chanter pretty much settles the old boxwood-ebony tone question, then, doesn't it?

Benedict Koehler has aksed me to pass along this comment: Having been present while Brian was recording "Fort of the Jewels" I can state unequivocally that there was no multi-tracking of pipes (ie. drones, regs and chanter recorded separately) whatsoever and that in fact Brian was disturbe...

Any feelings about boxwood vs ironwood regarding the flat set chanter? Boxwood would be my preference. Where's why: http://www.uilleannobsession.com/photos/koehler&quinn/boxdch2.gif http://www.uilleannobsession.com/photos/koehler&quinn/boxdch1.gif Hmm, isn't that one actually "castella...

You often read of pipemakers measuring chanters and how important these measurements are ,but apart from their use if they are making an exact copy of a particular chanter ,what can be learned from these measurements ? Is it possible to mix and match measurements as to get the best from two differe...

The CD has all of the ur-images from which the B&W illustrations in the Review were made, as well as another 1000 or so.

I spend a few minutes almost every morning writing about the work, so I'm guessing the stuff will keep piling up.

The recent series of articles on Taylor-style keywork I wrote for the Seattle Irish Pipers' Club's Piper's Review explain in prolix detail how I go about making keys in that style, but nobody can be exactly sure how the Taylors did it. The best we can do, at this stage, is to look carefully at what ...

Is the chanter also a Taylor? This one is. It belongs with this set. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid143/p0949cfef624fe8dac7b6b996f7fdcdd0/f6a18112.jpg http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid143/paf22ed2e833b4e8ba369005b11f972e5/f6a1811d.jpg http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid143/p...

Re: Pipes and The Maker

Hi Everyone How do you get pipemakers to make you a set e.g. without paying. As many of the albums that I have say that this player plays X pipers sets. I've also heared of some pipemakers just making sets for people. Just because the feel like it. Ian Mackenzie has sent out a few Bb chanters as pr...

BK does a couple of sets of tunes with Brian McNamara on Brian's CD Fort of the Jewels . He also has a couple of tracks with Kevin Rowsome on a much older CD of the Elkins doings, I believe. Sorry, I don't have that CD, so I can't provide any more information than that. There is a downloadable mp3 f...

I was pretty enthusiastic about Pat Murray's chanters when I heard them a couple years ago. This last weekend at the Killington Pipers' Gathering (the Gathering Formerly Known as North Hero) I had a chance to sit down with Pat and his colleague Alex Bush to try five of their latest chanters. These g...

Re: Additional photos of Hubbert D set.

Here's a few close-ups of my new Michael Hubbert set. Notice the drone switch, inspired by Brian McNamara's Quinn & Kohler set. Also check out the right hand index finger activated Bb & G# keys. That's Koehler and Quinn. This is a splendid looking set of pipes. Wonderful execution. Thanks f...

Is it a coincidence that BK and DQ are in the same business both in pipes and in fast food? What are the odds of that? Wow, I gotta have more (or less) coffee! Not a coincidence. Rather, part of a vast liberal-to-progressive conspiracy. The best response to such an exposé, on the part of the genera...
