Agreed Eric ,
Roll in towards your chin to flatten the note to the desired degree-roll 'out' to sharpen.
This cross fingering and 'humouring' of notes by rolling is what made the Baroque Flute work as a chromatic instrument.

Nice view Peter. It's been our hottest day in the N.E. today, don't know what temperature it was outdoors, but it was still 90-100 odd degrees in my greenhouse with the door and vents open (should have got some shading)-my poor Tomatoes! Then,We had a monsoon this afternoon too-it was ABSOLUTELY TORRE...

'Taj Mahal trio' in concert.
I was lucky(or wise) enough to go to 'The Sage',Gateshead,on Friday night to see the legendary 'Taj Mahal' play. He played a semi-acoustic Epiphone' guitar, and electric piano on one number, accompanied by an electric bassplayer and drummer. The man is a walking encyclopaedia of 20th century music sty...

Dixon Polymer now joined by M. & E. 'Rudall & Rose'
I've had my Dixon Polymer three piece Flute for three years now and I still think that it's a good beginner Flute ,and great value for money. I must admit that I'd laid off playing Flute for a while, until the other week when I got the Dixon out again-inspired by listening to Josie MacDermott,Jack Co...

Two musicians were killed in a 'hit and run' incident-as well as Joe,the gifted Saxophonist/composer/educator Keith Morris was the other victim. I met,and played with Keith in 1979,and found him to be a delightful character. Music in the North East of England has suffered a double senseless loss thi...

Can't really listen at home but mention of Hank Jones reminded me of that wonderful CD of spirituals he made with Charlie Haden just a few years back. I forget the name of it but I bet others here know what I'm talking about. the album is titled 'Steal away',and it's a beauty. Haden is one of my fa...
