Sources of light many times brighter than their surroundings - like the sun - usually appear white in digital photography because they saturate the color-space. The true color of the sun might have been, on a analog scale of 0-100 best represented as 99.99 red / 99.99 green / 99.98 blue (in other wo...

At http://www.realarcade.com they have a lot of free web-playable games. (from the main page, click game guide, then click web games...) Some are gambling style games and some are violent, but, pretty much all the ones in the 'puzzles' column are essentially all non-violent non-gambling, except for ...

I really think a lot of people (especially on this forum) over estimate the difficulty of playing flute. Sure, it's difficult to learn to play well , but that's true for any instrument. I've acted as shopkeep for some cheap (renfaire) bamboo flutes before, and generally find myself hanging around t...

There is no point in getting a keyed flute untill you know and understand the cromatic scale, when you know how to use the keys, then you can call yourself a flute player, the keyless flutes are nothing more than a large whistle, and i believe they should be referred to as such,, i use all the keys...

Almond oil (with vitamin E so it doesn't go rancid on you!), cold pressed linseed oil, and pure tung oil are the only oils that I know of that do the hardening thing. Olive oil, walnut oil, etc, etc., don't. 'boiled' linseed oil and tung oil 'finishes' are full of heavy metals and very, very bad. Li...

Just finish them and send them to me. I'll take good care of them. ;) Seriously, I do think you've done a reasonable job of trying to notify the person. Maybe you should wait another bit until the 24th before choosing your own finishings for the whistles, then you can say you waited a full month fro...

Hmmm, I use almond oil with vitamin E also. I can only find it at the whole foods market, (which about a year ago, one of them actually renamed itself from 'Bread and Circus' to 'Whole Foods Market' ... an interesting marketing strategy, perhaps, so that when people say 'at the whole foods market' t...

It occurs to me that it helps a lot to know all the other sessions in your area, especially any slow-sessions or Comhaltas hosted leaning sessions or such. It's much easier to tell someone to go somewhere else than to tell them to just go away. It's the gentlest way I've ever seen anyone told that t...

On the middle D, you also have the option of venting or not venting the top hole. Venting is a little sharper than not venting, all else being equal. I think, the tighter your embouchure for a more focused stream, the more dramatic the difference that angling that stream can make in pitch. It may ta...

Ah, well. I felt that Michael's problem is more that he wants to -be- a little white boy than that he wants to do anything perverse with one. I didn't follow the whole trial closely, but it did sound as if the defense had some evidence and testimony to bring forward, something about the boy having p...

It's called 'scambaiting', and you can learn about it at http://www.419eater.com It's not recommended to scambait from a real, traceable IP address with real, traceable information since some scammers are part of violent organized crime rings. Some scams involve getting you to fly into reach of the ...

I now have an Olwell pratten and a Byrne rudall, and the result is that, while I think these are great flutes, I also appreciate that the Copley is up there with the best. It really does combine to advantage both pratten and rudall tonal features. The keyed flute is a terrific deal and the waiting ...

/me counts the seconds until MurphyStout tells us to all throw out our metronomes... I agree that they are definitely helpful. It's easy to develop a catch where you slow down for a difficult phrase and then speed up again, or to play one section at a slightly different tempo than another section. T...
