Re: Venus, Jupiter and the Moon
I was pretty bummed about the cloud cover, but it broke at just the right time and I was able to see the night sky. It was beautiful!

Re: The Birds
In autumn the crows start massing here in great 'rookeries' at sunset. The sound is deafening as the come in, the mess is incredible, and it takes a lot of effort to get them to move their chosen location. On the bright side, they don't necessarily mass in the same places every year. Later, in sprin...

Sweetheart Resonance. No question in my mind. I've had 4 low D's, and played three others, and the Resonance is the only one I need or want to have any more.

Re: Condensation and wooden whistles....
Michael Grinter recommends soaking the entire head of his whistles in oil for five minutes or so at a time, and yet, as Paul pointed out Glenn Schultz recommended not to saturate the blade because of possible softening. It's interesting that there is quite a difference in how whistle makers view oi...

There is a premium on fresh fallonga here in the USA. I guess people find stale fallonga sorta old and boring. Anyway, I have plasticware here to keep fresh fallonga.

Re: I remember the gypsy moth outbreaks in the 70's
Beth, during Gypsy Moth outbreaks you could go outside and hear two distinct sounds. One was millions and millions of jaws crunching through leaves, and the other was a steady hiss of millions and millions of pellets of caterpillar dung raining down from the trees. It was truly awful. Saw a longhorn...

Dig up a hunk of it (with roots) and take it to your local ag extension agency, usually located with a college. They LOVE IDing stuff.

This has been a favorite clip of mine for a long time. I've been a dressage rider (not anywhere near this level!) and the whole ride is incredible. However, my favorite section is something that most people would pass over. Right around 3:08, after a very technical first half, the horse is asked to ...
