If you were to stick to the whistle I'd say play it as is most comfortable to you, and don't fret it. But flutes and pipes tend to be directional and you would limit yourself to instruments made specifically for 'backhanded' playing.
My two cents can be donated to your choice of worthy causes.

Re: Newbie Questions
I can't imagine having the air for a whistle lower than D, nor a finger stretch for C without keys. Susato has made both low whistles with keys, but I couldn't recommend them. I have seen an ENORMOUS whistle once that took 3 people to play because you had to cover the holes with your hands. IMO atta...

The ONLY good thing about FB over C&F is the 'LIKE' button. In re: mishagasah yes, foolishness. But it sounds better in Yiddish!

Re: Reintroduction of Yours Truly
Hi, nice to see you posting on the C&F Forums Tyg. We haven't bumped into one another formally but hopefully will one day soon here in CT. Good to hear you're still with the whistle shop Musique Morneaux. Be well. Hello again! I fell away from the Irish music a few years back, so I don't get ar...

Pancelticpiper, that was a MAJOR walk down memory lane!! My second whistle was one of the old flageolets in blackwood. Back when I was collecting.

Re: Sweetheart Flutes
Item three: we stopped putting hand etched numbers on certain instruments years ago. But we have all numbered instruments hand itemized in notebooks! Does that mean you can tell who made a particular (numbered) instrument and when? It would be pretty cool to find out that kind of thing! I can tell ...

Reintroduction of Yours Truly
Hello C&Fers near and far, old and new. I took a break and I'm back now, if just to poke my furry head in every once in a while. I play a number of instruments, all poorly, but it keeps me happy! Most recently I started playing Basel piccolo and marching with Americlique, a Swiss styled piccolo ...

Re: Sweetheart Flutes
Very interesting. One wonders why they didn't continue using the Sweetheart name. I also wonder why a family member didn't continue the company. BTW my first flute was a Sweet flute, bought around 1976. It had a very low serial number (can't remember now but it was around 100). Amazing to see Sweet...

CP: New Whistle tune book - Whistles in Duet
Hey folks! I've been away from C&F and treating my bad case of WhOA, but I'm still around, back working for Ralph at Sweetheart Flute. We have a new tune book written by Jos. Morneau, our shop foreman, that is really superb. Written in English and Quebecois, it has fife and drum tunes, trad piec...

Okay Tyghress, if you see an order from a guy named Paul in Lawrenceville IL make sure you send him a good one. Pick out one of the best with a nice dark color ;) Strange thing. My email sent to ralphsweet@aol.com were not going through but did if I used the “form” on the web page. Paul, I sometime...

And if you really want, most sellers have some return policy for people who aren't happy with their whistle.
