Mam's leg was turning green by now. Pa was trying to get some whiskey down her gullet but she was a chokin' and screaming and he drank most of it and that's true cause I watched him do it. He was fixin' to take the leg off with his old rusty saw when Jamie got back but then he couldn't find it---he ...

We know nothing of my father's side of the family and have a chart my great-uncle made for my mom's side going back to the mid-19 c. I like seeing pictures of the people, but just names don't seem to interest me much and there never are stories with the names in the case of my relatives. I think I u...

Well, I am truly shocked that these people feel that cockroaches need such special living conditions. I can guarantee you---the cockroach can take care of itself. You do not need to concern yourself with a thing if you give it the run of the house which I think is the only fair thing to do with a pe...

Do you now, dear? :D Well, yes, it's really very interesting. As you can see, neither of these two pirates has an eyepatch. http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/images/n18/n91641.jpg http://www.booksamillion.com/bam/covers/0/82/178/057/0821780573.jpg  That would be Cap'n Radley Firecrotch's dear...

I tend to agree with Doug's point that the patch could have helped with going into dim light and the pirate would be no worse off that he would have been without it going back into the sun. The article paulbrewer posted said that airplane pilots really did do this---so it seems possible other people...

I agree with alurker . I came across a reference to the Irish as monkeys in something from 19th c. England I read---can't remember what it was. I believe the person really thought the Irish were monkeys---the person did not think they were human beings. I have not come across racial slurs in my life...

Congratulations! I'm glad all is well. I remember your post in April about the surprise of more fingers and toes than you were expecting. My sister was also very surprised to learn that she was having twins, and it was pretty rough for awhile but her husband helped a lot and those two babies...
