No, they are more likely to be "bo-eed" up. Interestingly, while buoy may be "boo-ee", a life buoy is more likely to be a life "bo-ee". Go figure. On the Chesapeake Bay they're pretty much boo-eed. If you sometimes go by the name Ziggy Stardust you might be bo-eed thou...

It's only difficult for you because you're not used to it. People in Roman times read and wrote that way just fine. It's a matter of culture, of what you're used to (or not). It is true that spaces were not used between words in Roman times, but then how do you account for the fact that all (I beli...

I hadn't thought about the wearing out part and the expense of pulling them out of circulation and printing more, etc. I guess I would be willing to have a coin if it saved money in the long run. Plastic sounds ideal for $1 bills----but I suppose it would require doing absolutely everything differen...

Bill , I see many of your points. I guess once I accepted that this would be a show talking about the war through US soldiers who had served in it and talking about battles that were significant to the US effort, then I could accept that there would not be in-depth discussion of other aspects of th...

...Also... completely replace the dollar bill with dollar coins that are sufficiently different in look size and feel from quarters... Why do you want them to do this? I hate carrying as much change around as I already do. It is heavy! Give me these notes any day: (Edited to add: Actually, now that...

Here is a funny website I read about in the newspaper a few days ago. The woman who started it collects instances of the improper use of quotation marks. http://quotation-marks.blogspot.com/ http://bp2.blogger.com/_-dk1axrNmqU/RvfAVFk9U2I/AAAAAAAABHA/ZRy97zp7Sf8/s400/locked.jpg http://bp0.blogger.co...

I watched the first episode last night and I thought it was really very good. I, too, was somewhat concerned that it might focus on the American experience to such an extent that people would leave it without realizing the amount of suffering by people in other countries. I thought the show did a pr...

Oh, I thought you meant a drug-taking type.

How can "cleave" mean both cling together and split in two? That has always seemed quite odd to me. It's almost insane really. I'm sure I could (and should) look it up.

I don't seem to like those Ken Burns documentaries for some reason, but I am going to watch this one because it is something I am really interested in. I have only become aware as I've gotten older how very little I really ever did know about WWII. I have been reading a couple of books that talk qui...

That was a great video---I'll have to get my husband to watch it. We've had trouble with squirrels getting onto bird feeders but we seem to have some feeders now that work pretty well. We do have a squirrel feeder as well, so they aren't being left out. My husband was keeping the bird food in the ga...

 You know, I have a likewise tendency and I suppose that really is why I find it disturbing. Everything needs to fit into a pattern of some sort. Well, thank goodness I have bigger thing to obsess about---like, how clean is the floor really?---so I've managed to stay pretty calm about this one....

I understand your question was not directed to me, but yes, I can see why you titled the thread the way you did. We were supposed to feel the way people felt when they heard this rumor going around. So some people believed it and felt upset. Most likely those who were upset will recover---it's not a...
