Re: vPipes Update

At the end of the of day, these vpipes are simply a digital compressed sampled sounds of a not so great sounding D chanter with a bit of reverb with a visual look of a bit of plastic with a few sensors fitted for each note, :-? thats what they sound and look like to me, dead!! they reproduce a recor...

Re: Copper sheet for Bridle

I'm with Mike, I simply cut up some old 1/2inch copper water pipe, I cut it in to strips with the tin snips, file it up in a small vice and it works a treat, I find the sheet copper a bit to springy for bridles, but each to there own. all th best.

Re: Free chanter reeds - TOO LATE

I was thinking the same as Rory 11.5mm seems a little narrow for a concert D reed as Nicks states he makes his reeds 1/2inch wide which = 12.70mm, :-? I personal prefer a wider reed head still 13.50-13.80mm which is some where around 17/32 wide, :really: works well for my own chanter. all the best, ...

Re: chanters for sale

Eamon makes a very nice concert chanter, as Davy make a good narrow bore, both sound very nice, like to share the reason for the parting.

Re: FS: Coyne B Set in Boxwood

I would think due to the shrinkage in the wood after all this time you would have to allow for half a millimetre difference in bore measurements, unless you have an original diagram plan of a Coyne chanter you can whistle till the cows come home, there are one or two makers that have original plans ...

Re: D bits

Hi guys, the drill will still cut when its hot, but you don't want to produce to much heat when your boring wood specially ebony as it will crack if it gets to hot, I give a minute in between using each drill in turn for the bore to cool a little, to much heat will soften the cutting edge of the dri...

Re: D bits

I use twist drills for concert D's and my drills don't go off centre any more than 1-2 millimetre at most, :-? if there sharpened correctly and the right speed is used, there's no reason why long twist drills should go off centre if used correctly, the secret is not to rush the job, I use ten long d...

Re: Importance of the staple VS the reed head

Hi ausdag, the reed sounds good in all three chanters, the B was still there as well, so is the reed dimension just as for a standard C chanter reed, or is the staple bore a little larger than 3.2mm? made from copper? or is it just made from a good piece of cane! are you going to let us in to your s...

Re: Bore Data?

I my self don't like black wood, it gives to strident a sound for me, blackwood was used more for mouth blown bagpipes its copes with moister much better than ebony or boxwood along with more of the softer woods, I still think ebony makes the best chanters in sound and finish, but its heavier on the...

Re: Bore Data?

I use 5mm x 12" long airoplane drills bits Bill, because I got a load for a dollar each from the USA on ebay a couple of years back, if I remember right something like seventy in total, I finish the last few inches of the chanter bore with three extra long 4.8mm x 16" drills bits I picked ...

Re: Bore Data?

keaaudio, your not far away with your measurements, along as the taper is 4.80mm to 13.50mm over 370mm in length you will not be far away, then a throat length of 18.5mm - 19.00mm, from the top of the chanter down to the throat 5.18mm -5.25mm which ever size you choose, then start the bore taper, it...

Re: Waiting for pipes Question

In this day and age of email and telephone it take only but a few minutes for a maker to let his customer know if he is running late on finishing a order, and should then notify his next customer on what date he will be starting there order, and when so he should contact that customer to let he or s...
