McD's on its knees

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/devon/6214686.stm A McDonald's restaurant in a Devon town is closing because it cannot compete with local traders, say campaigners. The restaurant, which opened in 1999, will close on Saturday while Tavistock farmers' market thrives with a prestigious food award. T...

Clearly *someone* didn't buy their very own FluteBeard™ while they had the chance. Instant cure for the rolling-off-the-table thing, not to mention its astonishing tone-enhancement qualities.

A recording booth would not be a good place to do this as they tend to nullify differences between instruments, rather than accentuate them, which is one thing that affects how recorded instruments sound. Oh dear. Rather rules out any scientific analyses of the sounds produced. Guess we'll just hav...

You've read a lot more into what I said than I intended. One thing that I didn't say that I should have was that I was thinking of reflection from surfaces. In both cases you have a set of equations and boundary conditions that must be solved and satisfied. That's the problem with the written media...

Sound and light don't obey exactly the same equations, but they're not that dissimilar. Quite so. Light waves travel through the luminous ether in exactly the same way sound waves travel through the air. So the theorists who say that simulations indicate that the material doesn't make a difference ...

Now this one is definately only for smart people! http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/13/Swindon_Magic_Roundabout_eng.png I dunno about 'smart' people. But since I've yet to see an accident on the Magic Roundabout (not even just in front, behind, or to the side of me when I've be...

It occurs to me that this is no work of art after all. The foot, and the player's motion, gives the game away... It's one of those computer-generated images obtained by sticking bright reflective dots on various points of the body, "Motion Capture" they call it in the movies. It's the CEO ...

Pivot Stick Figure Animator will let you make small animated gifs, and it's free. But nowhere near as cool as TreeFluteStickMan™, a product of FluteBeardCo Inc.

Considering what a keyless D went for recently, I'd say the asking price is very reasonable indeed for a keyed Bb with additional A body.

Curse this impecuniosity!!

Well, it's not worth the time to make converts of the unwilling, but the fact stands that you can record the difference in tone, which means it's not all happening inside the player's head, literally or figuratively. I thought I'd covered that quite succinctly: If perchance a recording is made whic...

It's easy to demonstrate the effects of "throat tuning" to the player, without a flute. Remember the old "Hold a sea-shell to your ear and you can hear the ocean?" Cup both hands and put them over your ears. You'll "hear" a 'whooshing' sound. Then slowly open and close ...

It's a bit mysterious and a subject of much controversy. Still I think.... <snip> my desperate guess is that <snip> 'scientific experiments' alleging to show the contrary....you name it. Yep, the "blind faith" versus scientific evidence controversy has raged for decades. Interesting use o...
