Sounds very plausible. A whistle's something you could buy for your youngster and it wouldn't break the bank, even if it ended up collecting dust.

Re: Blowing machine

There was a house party/session where for variety's sake the piper intermittently played a B set, and his spouse a designated tuned-down fiddle. Lovely pitch, and the playing was top level. Both were friends of mine and I knew they'd be there, so I made bold to bring along a B whistle (for better or...

I haven't seen one with a mouthpiece quite like that before.
Looks like a flageolet, but it's the first metallic one I've seen.

I've always said as much. Strictly on the basis of wishful thinking, but that's good enough for me.

Great tunes!

I suppose that one's to be expected sooner or later. Viscous bulldogs, though ... didn't Dali paint one of those?

Re: More "divided by a common language" stuff

Here's a headline I can't decipher: "Infra woes brew, Chemistry lab turns kitchen at govt school in TN" (from New Indian Express). TN here means Tamil Nadu. What is this "infra"? I've heard it in British speech - might've even had it explained - but it has no retained meaning for...

Re: lube for the tuning slide

I know Patrick Olwell recommends no grease but I think he is in the minority on this topic. Remember that some tuning slides are meant to be left dry; their fitting tolerances are so close that grease is rendered pointless at best, and can gum up the slide at worst. Some of my flutes required slide...

Here's another clickbait headline: "[Photos] *****'s Famous Wife That Few Know About." (name obscured because I'm a gentleman; make what you will of the full stop).

Do I need to pose the obvious question, here?
