It does look like the pic, but I can't see the dingbats clearly. Anyone have a pic of the Walton to compare? I have no recollection of getting this whistle, as it was my first, and most likely purchased during one of those "I gotta get a new instrument" frenzies, where it was either buy so...

Hi Seventhanna! Welcome to WhOA. I know you're in love with your new toy, but I second the recommendation that either you play songs you KNOW, without the benefit of hearing someone else playing whistle, or you return to the nice little store and get yourself a D whistle. If you try to listen to rec...

I may not have the standard case of WhOA, but I have WhAA....Whistle Accouterment Aquisition disorder. I now have Brasso (icky smell, cheap, easy to use), a cymbal cleaner that isn't Pro-Mark (might actually get returned) and Cape Cod Cloth. The latter has a pleasant odor, but is hideously expensive...

I have an inexpensive whistle, brass with a green fipple (bevel edged), with a label that simply says D Tin Whistle Irish Made in a black oval, with red dingbats above and below.

Does anyone know what breed it is?

Many thanks,

I tend to spend a lot of time on certain sites, and wanted a way to share my favorite locations (usually musical, but not always) and get input on other places to surf. Right now I'm spending 90% of my web-hours on http://www.chiffandfipple.com and it's associated links, http://www.thesession.org, a...

I'll never claim to be anything but a rank amateur, and I can "half-hole" a G# and E# fairly easily. Kind of like doing a slide, but deciding not to at the last minute. Give it a shot, it's a lot easier than trying to find some magical fingering that might not work on the next whistle you ...

For a pickup playing Shenandoah, in D on D, try F#,E,D instead of the low A, or A,F#,D (but I prefer not doing the chord).

I have a Burke Brass Pro D, and it does NOT overpower at session. That title is held by a Susato. I think its hysterical that our top players at session are now miked, all BUT the guy on the Susato.

Yesterday in session, at some point the viola player started in on a blues progression which we all picked up....then the accordianist broke into a VERY funked up version of Danny Boy. It was hysterical.

What about Shenandoah on a whistle?

Now occasionally it is pathetically EASY to remember the name of a tune. For me, Saddle the Pony (aka Priests Leap, I think, but I don't think of that) "looks" precisely like it sounds. It goes D| G B A G... on the D I grab the saddle on the first G I start swinging it up, and it lands on ...

Jomac, how do you do an octave slur? Are you just pressuring from the low to the high A? I don't seem to have the knack.

Bri, I haven't checked mail today. . .but I'm going to do it now <G>.

Thanks for the help, folks!

I have an electronic chanter too, and while it's fun to play, it emphatically is NOT the same as practicing with the real thing. The fingering on electronic chanters is VERY forgiving, and the real thing is not, so if you're practicing with the e-chanter and don't get your fingers down together, you...
