Tutor question...

Does anyone else think the Armagh tutor has settings that are perhaps a bit too tough? Now that I've been teaching a bit, I find the settings are unnecessarily difficult.

Is it just me?

<RANT> ...i can't believe some stuff i hear about the USA. Those silly lawsuits is one of them and legal guns another. I just applied for, and received, a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Don't piss me off in traffic!!! Seriously, I was ran off of the road about 18 months ago with my wife and an...

Bag elbow tendonitis...

Does anyone have problems with tendonitis in their bag elbow? When I play Highland pipes, this doesn't bother me at all, perhaps because I don't have to squeeze as much. With uilleann pipes, I keep some level of tension on the bag at all times with my elbow except for the few seconds it takes to ope...

Nivea cream, tuner, various whistles, zip lock bag with damp Scott towels in it, spare reeds, hemp, teflon tape, superglue, pliers... Anyone reading these lists would probably come to the conclusion that pipers are pervs. All we would need is a blow torch and we could get 'medieval on your ass!'. :...

What's in yer pipe case?

Besides your pipes of course, what sort of goodies are rolling around in there? I have more Aveeno hand lotion than anything else it seems....hemp, sand paper, crucifix (can't hurt!).......

I knew it!! Pipe makers do live in the lap of luxury! I bet you're just like Krusty, lighting your Cubans with $100 bills.

Let's play 'Review the Flat Set Makers'!

Just for arguments' sake, let's say Geoff Wooff makes the best flat sets. If you couldn't get a Wooff set--and most of us can't--who would you go to next? Does one or more pipemaker(s) really stand out for their flat sets, say over the usual D set? If you choose to reply, what would factor into your...

Age at starting...why?

I noticed most people started at 30 and older.

Do you think it took most of us (I started at 28 ) all these years to mature and appreciate Irish music/Uilleann pipes?

Or did it take us all these years to make enough money to afford the bloody things?

Save your money. Buy quality the first time out. $50 will get you on Seth Gallagher's list. If you can't save the money in 10 months' time, work harder (or drink less!). Seriously, Seth's instruments are beyond reproach (Paddy Maloney plays Seth's pipes), the price is competitive and few other maker...

Pipers, whistles, and fingering...

For those of you who actively play whistle for practice or to 'compliment' your piping, do you use 'pipe fingering' or whistle fingering when playing the latter? I've seen a few pipers playing whistle with the bottom hand down on high hand notes...

Whistle question...

I'm looking for a whistle that takes some air. I am a Highland piper primarily, uilleann piper closely thereafter. I just cannot get used to whistles that take so little air you can play them in a breeze. I have an "improved" Feadog (sp?) but it takes so little air I just can't play the da...
