Re: THE GREAT UILLEANN YOU-TUBE THREAD.

Nathan and I used to play together a fair amount when he lived in the Twin Cities. Our loss when he moved away!

Re: Tweaking a whistle with a dirty/harsh sound

At what point does this discussion cross into the territory of libel? Just asking for a friend. When someone starts deliberately trying to defame or malign a company, rather than idly pondering how the whistle-making industry works in the modern world? Libel laws are different in different countrie...

Re: Zouks

Yeah, I don't have much problem with where it's made so long as the product and vision behind it are well in harness with the community's needs. I honestly think you get that with TC. At first I had my doubts, but it's been a pleasant surprise. My cittern was a Foley, so yes, I'm kinda fussy.

Re: Zouks

I've heard good things about Trinity College. Seems to be one of the best options before going custom-made. I find myself agreeing with that. I discovered in Mandolin Cafe that TC is made in East Asia somewhere - Japan, S. Korea and China have all reportedly been manufacturing bases at s...

Re: Zouks

A preowned Trinity College TM-375. This is my first TC of any kind ever, although I've noodled on various of them before and was favorably impressed. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTcq8NTTZo1yvHTFZFJOfoKEGu9-Ap7sws5Ug&usqp=CAU I think it was a good deal - around 60% the pr...

Re: History of the Uilleann Pipe

FWIW, even the Irish don't always know the uilleann pipes. I was playing outdoors when a fellow walked up and asked what the contraption was, and given his accent I was quite astonished. He said he'd never known of them until then, and it was pretty evident he was being truthful. Seems like the weir...

Played cittern for years - I have to admit that whatever else I might play, I'm really a backup player by temperament - and owing to circumstances got rid of my instruments. Long story, all well and good, but now after a long hiatus I find myself playing with folks again. It was fun fumbling around ...

Sounds very plausible. A whistle's something you could buy for your youngster and it wouldn't break the bank, even if it ended up collecting dust.
