Re: Brian Hughes
I have an Mp3 of Brian playing the tune slowly (Bill Collins Jig) with some embellishments. I don't know how to post an Mp3 onto this site or even if it is possible but I can email it to anyone who is interested.

Re: Brian Hughes
I Did a workshop with him a Camden Town recently. As well as being friendly and approachable he also put his ideas across really well. He introduced a simple jig and explored the possibilities within the tune. As usual with most Irish players he recommended learning by ear. He had a whole bunch of S...

Re: Greenest of the Green
Just to give you an example of different takes on a tune. Below are a couple of renderings of 'Shandon Bells' a jig played firstly on flute (Brid O'Gorman) then on whistle (Joe Bane). The Joe Bane version has the dots as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwZUJiUUZyg&list=PLCVoA4ZO7FimmmWCYVu...

Re: Greenest of the Green
Another very important thing to do is listen, listen, listen. Not only to whistle players but every other instrument connected to the genre. For instance you could hear the same tune played on a fiddle, then on a whistle then on accordion and listen for the different ways of ornamentation and differ...

Re: Alien Covenant
It's just bad scripting. Of course your right, it's very unlikely any off-world researcher would behave like that. From my point of view its not a film about how 'intelligent' people should behave but a pure fantasy with aliens doing their thing and the humans behaving stupidly and predictably. Alm...

Re: Alien Covenant
The actions of some of the crew were so laughable they actually deserved to die, it's natural selection I guess ;-) Yes I agree they did deserve to die especially the guy having a poo and chucking his cigarette butt away. I think maybe that was the point, to show how crass and stupid humans can be!...

Re: Alien Covenant
Usually I can tell the sound of a Recorder, this is a bit in-between-ish (Whistle/Recorder) I would plump for a Recorder though. I enjoyed the film, predictable of course but you can't go wrong with invincible acid drooling aliens.

Re: Paddy Moloney : Chieftain [documentary]
It's not playing for me in the UK either and I signed up to RTÉ thinking that would solve it but unfortunately not, pity. Quote From RTÉ (Due to rights restrictions, some programmes cannot be viewed outside of Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland. Overseas viewers can watch a selection of RTÉ pro...
