Re: New double chanter?

I don't believe independent playing would be possible. I can't imagine how that would work even work other than playing the top hand notes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJisKPjCEXA Of course, that's a smallpipe with more or less constant pressure behind the reeds. You'd be a lot more limited on ...

I think this is one trend that would be best not getting off the ground.

Re: Long time Highland Piper, starting off on Uilleann adventure

Treat it like a new instrument. Some of it comes quite quickly, yes, but you'll find that there's a temptation to jump tricky bits to get to the next "easy" bit. Resist it. Remember that all the pressure control comes from your bag arm, not the bellows. Find someone local who can talk sens...

Re: 21 Years to Master‽

A few years regular (good quality) practice is enough for a superficial level of competence. There is something in the 21 years thing, though.

You do know Cunningham's Law: the quickest way to get the right answer on the internet isn't to ask the question, it's to post the wrong answer.

Re: Tuner warning

How on earth those Scots military bands manage to keep the pipers and the brass cum woodwinds in a pitch I'm sure I don't know... considring that some of the Highland Pipe bands appear to get ever sharper in pitch these days. Until relatively recently, military pipe bands were only playing at about...

Is this what we GHBers would call a half doubling? Something like BdB {Ac}AFA?

Re: Drones build/mainstock design questions

That's the one. I guess in a solid mainstock it's a case of drilling one hole up from the bottom and another from the side!

Re: Drones build/mainstock design questions

Have you had a look at Bill's article? I think that answers your question - basically, it is fed by a tube from the disc against which the drone switch valve operates.

Re: Drones build/mainstock design questions

I wouldn't bother with O-rings at all. You be making one huge big bushing anyway. Yes, I thought that would work. My only worry there was the accuracy of hole size required. I think I will try it, and leave room to expand it for O-rings if I cack it up! Are you going to fit a metal collar on the st...

Drones build/mainstock design questions

Apologies if you also follow the bagpipe makers group on Facebook and are seeing this request twice, but I suspect there are probably a few folk here that don't and might have something interesting to say. Anyway, I am starting a little project to build some concert D drones in Delrin/brass and havi...

Re: Flat high G fixes

Maybe a "Sticky" topic here about adjusting tuning note by note would be of help. I've often thought that reed troubleshooting would be quite effectively contained in a choose-your-own-adventure type format. You have a chanter: if the second octave is flat, turn to page 57. Otherwise, tur...

Re: Beginning UP and SSP sets

I just don't want to spend more than I need to as a beginner. Quick show of hands. Has anyone here said something similar and not regretted just getting a decent instrument to start with? *puts hand up* As for serious advice, I'd suggest getting a (GHB) practice chanter and taking some lessons and ...

Fom my perspective (I both teach and receive lessons via Skype) I think it's great. Obviously you need a solid connection, but so far it's never been unworkable.
