Re: French half-closed fingering

just looking for something quiet and portable. I may actually go for that practice chanter - fairly reasonably priced. I wonder how quiet it is.

French half-closed fingering

has anyone adapted a recorder or whistle to French half-closed fingering? Looking for something a little more quiet and portable since I am traveling a lot for work.

Re: Got my chanter. So many questions!!!

I got my Sam Lawrence C# chanter. It is great, the only problem is that I can't really feel the holes very well, and it sounds like a dying cow or duck. Is this normal? Has anyone else had trouble sealing tone holes? Also the reed is rather stiff, will it become easier to play as time goes by? Sorr...

Should be standard Galician open fingered, 1.5 octave with right reed. 1.2 with stiffer reed.

Re: Bagpipe advice

First off, Order the Boulanger book. Here is a link to the English translation of it. Comes with a CD, cost about $35 total and they shipped it super fast (fastest I have ever gotten anything from Germany) http://spielleute.de/wbc.php?sid=9542a8567&tpl=produktdetail.html&pid=127&rid=11&a...

Re: Pipes with more than one octave.

Is the fingering on your Pastoral Pipes the same as standard uilleann pipe fingering? - should be, just wondering if it is.

Re: Learning Zampogna in Australia

yes and no. Whoever you got your zamp from tuned it to their environment, but if it has cane reeds, that will change. You will frequently see that zamp players keep a glob of beeswax somewhere (usually on the front of the mainstock) on their set with a little pick to fine tune the holes as needed.
