Re: Phew! That was scary!

EC, I don't know where you live, but out here in the Midwest, your reed troubles say "welcome to winter" to me. :D A recurring theme in the deep dark dry months...

Re: Chanter and reed - light/soft blowing

In the beginning I went through a lot of reeds. In retrospect it was me and not the reeds. I have probably ruined any number of perfectly good reeds by messing with them to get them just right every time I played. What I have learned through the years is, quit messing with it. Reeds are a fickle wom...

Re: Spare chanters

I'd say carry an extra chanter only if it's in a different key and you'll need to/want to play in that key. Otherwise carry extra reeds, not chanters.

Re: Chanter and reed - light/soft blowing

you also might want to consider having your chanter reeded locally, that is, by an experienced reedmaker living near you or in similar environmental conditions to you. There are may folks who can reed up different pipemaker's pipes. Just a thought. Cheaper than buying a new set. Jeff (edited for spe...

Re: a gem?

Just to make sure that everyone understands, a Pakistani company got a hold of one of a Kirk Lynch set back in the 90's - they copied the outward design but were NOT able to reproduce the sound and quality of a real Lynch set. These Pakistani sets do not represent a real Lynch set.

Ok, but if you change your mind let me know know. I don't think we are too far from each other and I have been playing a lot lately - travel has lightened up some.

Re: Ebay Items

It's true that JJ Maloney is not a well known maker, but I think that there are too many sets of pipes currently for sale. There's a glut of instruments. I think Peej has hit the nail on the head, between the established makers and the new ones that NPU has fostered over the past few years, combine...

Hey Kevin, why are you selling? going back to the big pipes? It would be good to continue to have a playing group here in KC - even though I think the last time we met up was 2 years ago at Marc's.

Re: Where to buy kaba gaida?

I have one from Zdavko Beshendiev - bag is kind of on the small side, but overall OK. My biggest impediment to learning kaba gaida here in the US the lack of others who play the music and the pipes. to me the Bulgarian rhythms are very mysterious and to ever get a handle on this thing I am definitel...
