I'd say carry an extra chanter only if it's in a different key and you'll need to/want to play in that key. Otherwise carry extra reeds, not chanters.

you also might want to consider having your chanter reeded locally, that is, by an experienced reedmaker living near you or in similar environmental conditions to you. Just to make sure that everyone understands, a Pakistani company got a hold of one of a Kirk Lynch set back in the 90's - they copied the outward design but were NOT able to reproduce the sound and quality of a real Lynch set. These Pakistani sets do not represent a real Lynch set.
