Just dip the whistle end into the solution and shake out the excess. Is this OK to do to wood fipple whistles? Okay on a cheap Clarke, but I wouldn't use it on an expensive wood whistle. The block in most top-end whistle is like those found in a recorder. Its made of a softer wood than the rest of ...

Re: Low g recommendations
Hi everyone, I have just purchased an Overton low G, it was a toss up between the chieftain and the Overton, I am lucky enough to have a friend with the Overton and the thin weasel in low G, the thin weasel would have been a bit of a pipe dream. I will be more than pleased when my Overton arrives. ...

On the subject of people making a Susato sound really good, check out Cormac Breatneach - http://www.cormacbreatnach.com/mm_video.asp . Both on the video clip with Vanessa Williams and on his CD 'Whistle and guitar' he gets a great tone. Shows what you can do when you have the ability and applicatio...

A lot depends on what wood your whistle is made of. Tom's Blackwood whistle will not absorb as much oil or moisture as one of the Apple wood high D's and will require less maintenance. As far as oiling is concerned, I think its good to start with the Almond oil + Vit E because you cant really get th...

Re: The Most Inappropriate Places To Break Out Your Whistle
The take-with-you-everywhere-bottom-of-the-bag thread got me thinking about the most inappropriate places and times to play your take-with-you-everywhere whistle. 1) Public Restrooms (This is also true of the harmonica, however tempted you may be) 2) Between the Caesar salad and the Chicken Parmagi...

gosh are you really serious about doing this with a low d??? might be hard for those poor short armed musicians.... berti Yep you're right, it would be diffcult if you have short arms; but if you can manage it, it works. I know I sounded a bit 'hard', but for those who've had some classical trainin...

Because whistle players are largely self-taught, they often have very poor posture when playing. Bowed heads (restricts your wind way) and whistle pointing downwards. Try holding that posture whilst being classically taught the Oboe or Clarinet and your teacher will give you a slap! Stand up straigh...

I use Tung oil - its worked for the Chinese for thousands of years, its more water resistant than linseed. Only need to watch it doesn't get on the block of my wood whistle and make sure that its not over applied to the bore. I dont get the paranoia over drying oils, so long as you dont use too much...
