What is the best software for manipulating recorded music?
What software is being used to manipulate music for the purpose of slowing it down (without altering the pitch) and transcribing it, and what options do each have? I have never purchased any software and think that it is about time. So opinions about the benefits and detractions are appreciated. Tha...

Re: The 2010 NPU Calendar
Neil, If you reed your Alain chanter without the rush and remove the bottom ferrule, so that it is sharp of concert-pitch, I think you will find the tone will improve considerably. That's what I've found anyhow. Hope you are well, Regards, David Hello David, That is interesting. I will try that. Th...

Re: The 2010 NPU Calendar
I believe that for at least AF's concert pitch sets, his measurements were from LR as well, though his chanters aren't quite as sweet as many of LR's. Could it be the reeds? or something else? I have a LR and AF and I am tempted to try my BK reed in the AF chanter to listen to the difference, but th...

Re: The 2010 NPU Calendar
I'm wondering if someone knows where Alain Froment drew inspiration from concerning the appearance of his pipes....I am curious to know if the Seery set played some part in this process? Regards to all, Steve I thought that Alain drew his inspiration from Leo Rowesome sets, many of which had metal ...

Seth Gallagher uses bronze for his reg reeds. Hard to adjust to get back in tune when they are out though.

Live from the NE Tional!
It is a typical cool mountain autumn afternoon. People are flocking in to registration and greeting each other as old and new friends of the same cloth. Should be a great weekend of tunes and craic here again at Gavins!

One other great crowd pleaser was "Rockall" ,when they sang the lines, Rockall ,Rockall you'll never fall. And the natural gas will burn your ass and blow you all to hell. The audence would go mad. RORY Oh, yes. One of my personal favorites! And what about that song with those odd lyrics:...

Perhaps, perhaps. Me da is a straight laced Catholic man that stayed clear of inuendo and slang language, so maybe he just hummed through that section...but he was always up for a good rebel come-all-ya or a brawl of course. The first time that I saw the Wolfe Tones live, was in Babylon, New York in...

Perhaps Peter Laban knows of someone. He is in west Clare (Miltown Malbay), but he may know of others in the region. Peter, are you listening? (If you are, hope that you are keeping well).

Some say the devil's dead and buried in Killarney others say he rose again and joined the British army. Actually, it is: "Some say the devil's dead and some say its hardly, some same the devils dead and buried in Killarney. More say he rose again, more say he rose again, more say he rose again...

9 grand X 1.63 = about $14,600 for handsome Americans...yikes. What does a new set cost these days? You got your exchange rate wrong, it's about 1.42 at the moment. If a Cillian O'Briain set is what you want, if you're like most folks this is about the only way you're going to get one. FWIW the oth...

Re: FS: Coyne B Set in Boxwood
Toms viewpoint assumes that no one has ever accurately copied a Coyne bore, Many pipemakers have advertised the fact that their pipes have Coyne bores including the likes of David Quinn and Alain Froment. So you can be sure that the bores are as accurate as can be measured. Bores are not like finge...

Re: FS: Coyne B Set in Boxwood
A pipemakers fingerprints are the way he turned the wood the shaped the metal. RORY I am far far from having any expertise in this area, but when you read, for example, David Quinn's analysis of the Taylor Bros techniques for constructing and assembling their pipes and how they overcame some engine...
