If you look carefully at the regulator keys you can see that the large plate touches have been riveted to the normal keys (two rivets at the top end of the keys) and are probably a retro fit as they do not look neat enough for the Taylors work The Tenor and Baritone regulators plus the bass drone ap...

Re: Stupid drone reed question.

Has Bamboo ever been used for drone or chanter reeds? Yes - an NSP maker used it for his drone reeds. It was drilled it out to get the walls thin and then split like a cane reed but they were not very good requiring a lot of pressure. Small diameter cane has always been quite hard to get in my expe...

Re: seasoning a bag with drone stock with switch

Bag dressings can be dodgy and cause more problems than they cure

Best advice is to contact Jon and see what he advises - have emailed you his contact details

Re: Uilleann Pipes wood, mounts, and tone

Hi Wyatt See I am on the list so better reply :) Best advice I can give is get yourself along to a pipers gathering, club or tional and see and hear sets by different makers and form an opinion from this. Sound clips on U Tube and websites are all very well but live is best and you will in a better ...

Re: Kiernan shuttle-drone pic?

Earliest illustration I know of for a shuttle drone is Praetorius in Syntagma Musicum c1620 where he describes it and says it emanates from France. The principle of putting several bores through a single piece of wood to give a low pitch within a shorter length was already well established in renais...
