Re: Opinions on the makers of this old set

Chanter may be early Taylor but if it is it has been got at as tone holes are far too large for them. The reed cap does not look quite right for their work so Tayloresque would seem more appropriate than actual Taylor Drone switch is just rotated round as does not appear to have any guides. It is al...

Re: Uilleann pipes with more than 3 drones.

The presentation set made for Robert Miller by Robert Reid (NPS fame) has six drones arranged in two sets of three. Two on off switches controlled which set was on giving either Dda or Ggd. The two bass drones have triple bored barrel sections rather than the outside loop. It was sold at Sotheby's i...

Re: An incredible auction of bagpipes

The pipes described under Lot 0012 do not look to be by Bechonnet. and are by 'Pajot Fils' (1863-1935) of Jenzat, Allier, Auvergne Region, France who made pipes and Hurdy Gurdys. If they stamped the bellows Pajot Fils then they may well be a recycled bellows originally by Bechonnet (1820-1900) If yo...

Re: Drone stock question

I thought The regs were in separate chambers so they could be played independently of the drones. If they are in the same chamber does that mean the drones have to be on, to play the regs. RORY This was covered a couple of months back here http://forums.chiffandfipple.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=93...

Re: Pastoral pipes in auction house

There are two Pastoral sets in the Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford. One is shown in Baines but unfortunately he does not show the one in Ivory which chased silver keys very much this set, maybe its twin. In common with a lot of Pastoral pipes there was no makers name

FS: Practice set and a Barrel set

A practice set in Ebony, Imitation Ivory and Nickel Silver – chanter with c key - £750.00 A MacGregor style...

Re: Chris Bayley in Hospital again

it would be very good if you posted the whole story of what has been happening to you not just so everyone knows about you but if they have something similar. I checked out some websites and I cannot believe what I read about this chemical, how common it is and the effects it can have on people. I ...

Re: Where do you keep your pipes?

To illustrate with an example from some years ago - A certain UK museum has a very nice Musette du Cour by Chedeville that was suspended on 'unbreakable' thread. The curator came in one morning and found it at the bottom of its case where it had all come apart due to the wrappings shrinking. Problem...

Re: Stop key mechanism pics?

Thank you John - The drawings are on my old bagpipeworld website and where also copied to the C&F a long time ago so are freely available. They are being updated to show several other types and once this is done will send them for inclusion on NPU The Source.

Re: Some question for reed.

Unfortunately plastic reeds just do not work well in the UP giving poor tone and invariably only about half the second octave at best. Humidity and temperature will cause reeds to open and close so will need to learn how to adjust them. They are relatively fragile and this need to be done with great...

Re: tuning without touching the reed

They are a little behind as it was done over a hundred years ago so is not a new invention.

Details are: 1902 / UK Patent 27279 / Figaniere. P / Graduated tuning slide for Wind Instruments incl. Bagpipes (a short section that held the reed could be adjusted in and out without removing the reed)
