Ghost D would need retuning to give a true D Note the slot at the end near the brass mount. Doesn't look like the brass mount is long enough to slide t...

Those mounts look like they could be casein - see http://www.scrimshaw.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Casein-pic-by-John-Berkely.jpg as an example of rod form. M No the mounts shown are not Casein (Milk Protein based) and are Cellulose Acetate sometimes known as Rhodoid. For a description of a numb...

Re: Ebay Items
Did AF every use elephant ivory? I know most of his concert sets have artificial ivory and I think some of his flat sets have mammoth ivory. Considering the recent changes in US law, it would be an important consideration when buying pipes from ANY maker. Yes, he did use elephant ivory on a few set...

Re: more pressure when playing drones
Some stock holes are tapered, others straight bore. I personally prefer tapered as I found you don't have to be as precise with the wrapping on the chanter. A slight taper widening towards the end of the stock is best as it allows for wood shrinkage and have come across this on several historical s...

Re: Going to Boston this weekend
Try slipping them under your coat when no one's looking RORY Its simpler than that - hide until closing time and all the staff have gone home then collect the desired instruments and then you only have to break out. This was apparently how the Harrington and OT Turned Reid NSP's were stolen from th...

Re: New double chanter?
There's a description of a double chanter, cylindrical bore, Northumbrian design I think, where the top hand holes were left off on one of the bores, meaning the other bore was intended as a harmony chanter. This chanter is fully described by James Talbot complete with dimensions that he saw on his...
