Re: Review: Sweetheart "Pro" plastic whistle
I'd love to see a comparison between the Sweetheart polycarbonate and the Burke composite. I own a Burke session D in brass and was about to buy a Sweetheart whistle in the Fall when they suggested I wait for the polycarbonate version. Walt, I'm familiar with Delrin from the mouthpiece on my Burke, ...

Re: Mic for whistle?
The cardioid patterns are ... identical. For example, at 1 kHz - around 1st octave B on a high D whistle - the -5dB cutoff is ~80 degrees off-axis for both microphones. The 58 may seem subjectively like it has a wider spread because of the round ball, but it's just an illusion. I love this forum. W...

Re: Electronic Ocarina
On the 2G iPhone I've found a limit to how fast one can toot on Ocarina, but first a comment on playing style: For whistle players looking for a quiet alternative to tooting away on your Generation high G at 1am, you'll find this is a different beast altogether and may not satisfy your needs. Optimu...

Re: Electronic Ocarina
They sent you one of these‽ They just dropped an iPod Touch preloaded with Ocarina in the mail? What's it like to be a Youtube Ocarina god, Walden?Walden wrote:Smule sent me one of these, and asked me to make videos with it. They'll be up on YouTube soon.

Re: Electronic Ocarina
I'm considering getting an iTouch and ran across this app. Does the iTouch have a mic like the phone? Anyone tried the Ocarina on it? New generation iPod Touch allows for the headphone mic to work, but I haven't heard what the playing experience is like using Ocarina in this way. My experience with...

Re: Electronic Ocarina
The Laughing Imp , Smule seems to want to do things right, I would suggest that you contact them and share your observations with them. It's a small company, be persistent, they are code writers, you are a person that understands an ocarina. They are looking, find them. I'm already in discussion wi...

Re:
One thing to look at is the fingering chart. This one is for the Smule ocarina. Each spot on or of is 2^4 or 16. So the Smule ocarina can play up to 16 notes without having to do anything to detect air speed. ( this shows the notes with the numbers ) Although some of the fingerings are the same, th...

Re: Electronic Ocarina
fyffer wondered if this sort of technology could be extended to the pennywhistle and I technically, I agree with him that it could, but my experience with Ocarina says we may be an iPhone generation or two away before the onboard computer can keep up. They would need to fix a few technical issues to...

Re:Ocarina by Smule - more info than you ever wanted to know
Strange yes, but is it such a stretch to extend that to the whistle or flute? Instead of 2 'holes' on each side of the iPhone, make it 3, and you have yourself a whistle. A lot of people have been clamoring for other instruments from Smule (more have clamored for different voices), but I, too, have...

I find that statement offensive. I'm quite fond of my lifeguard whistle. You should hear me play "Danny Boy" on it.ubizmo wrote:without that "lifeguard whistle" feeling

Mystery solved. This is simply a Clarke whistle rebranded by Woodstock Percussions. My guess is that this is a rebranded Meg. http://www.wonderbrains.com/images/products/p/pennywhistle_1_large.jpg http://www.wonderbrains.com/pennywhistle.html Yes, it is a cheapie. But it's not a bad whistle for a be...

Re: woodstock by clarke
Hi everyone, I am new to the site and have enjoyed reading all the great info here. I have been playing for a month now and was at Bate's Nut Farm when I saw a whistle called a Woodstock by Clarke. My kid wanted one so I got it. Just wondered if it is the extra cheapie by Clarke or what. It is coni...
