Re: Are you getting any better ?

I dunno: I still feel like I'm learning and discovering new things. But I also know that there are things I will never be able to do as a piper. From here on out I'm working mostly on playing music. I've had pipes bits since 1979, but I feel (in the past couple of years) that I'm actually just start...

Re: Sharp Sets

Eb appears to be the rage in Ireland these days. The spoken intent is that it "cuts through the noise". But it also kicks us fixed-pitched instruments to the sidelines.

There are is a groundswell to do these Eb snobs one better: we're going to play in Ebb. Haha! Take that!

Re: Adjusting spruce reeds?

One thing I’ve found is that spruce reeds seem to suffer the influence of (internal) gunk more than cane. I air-blew an entire dog’s worth of fur, dander, skin cells, etc out of my spruce reg reeds...with spectacular results.

Who recently reeded it? I know it was originally Leo, then Pat Skt, right?
I believe Donnacha Dwyer did the work. The Ennis Coyne, too!

Re: A weekly documentation on my uilleann piping progression

...It's probably more efficient to comment on the youtube page but... Apart from what Peter Lyons said about the tips of your left hand fingers, you also have too many fingers up/open holes in some of the phrases. It is adversely effecting the tuning. I think of the pipes as -basically- a closed sys...

Where are you in Midwest Canada? There are pipers in Thunder Bay, Winnipeg (I think), northern Minnesota, southern Minnesota, Northern Michigan, Detroit area, east/east-central Wisconsin, Chicago, etc. There will be pipers about at festivals in Saint Paul,MN and Milwaukee WI next month too. Maybe a ...

Re: Insurance and Traveling

Yeah, what PJ said. There are things you can do to lower your risk of being commanded to put your pipes in the hold; -travel with as small a case as you can. A classical musician’s case (i.e., viola) may buy you some street cred. [Currently, the world still holds classical musicians in high esteem.....
