Re: Practice Advice Requested

Just want to register my complete disagreement with the above post (which is a really annoying thing to do and sorry - in midst of a paper and can't really explain why at length). In short though, in playing trad, the performance, rather than the work, is of paramount importance - thus the constant...

Re: Practice Advice Requested

Actually, bepoq, although what we each said might appear to be quite different, I believe we somehow managed to cover many of the same points Although not mutually exclusive, bepoq's approach could be likened to " specificity ", that is specifically practicing the end result to achieve th...

Re: Best way to practice intonation?

Rhadge wrote:So for Morrisons Jig, that would be E as the drone/tonic note?
The tonic or "tonal center" is E.
Rhadge wrote:Can the tonic note change within the tune?
Yes, for example The Cup of Tea, but not Morrison's Jig.

Why is that people think that midi or an electronic tuner are 'perfectly' in tune??? I tend to think of it as being perfectly out of tune! In fact, equal temperament is "perfectly in tune". It's simply a different tuning standard (of which there are many) from just intonation. Perceived d...

In case it's not apparent, each volume is in fact a double CD set ...undeniably exceptional value.

EUR6000 i would expect to pay about 6,000 for one of these anyways. My concern is not so much that the seller stands to make a tidy sum but rather that this kind of pricing and it's acceptance spoils it for the rest of us. Who's really to blame, the seller or the buyer? Another consequence is more ...

I had a go on a high G once, my chubby fingers even held tight together couldn't cover the holes  It was physically impossible for me to play that whistle. The trick to playing this sized whistle is to completely change the grip. For the top/left hand, curl your fingers and use the tips of you...
