the reed is the exciter, the thing that produces the actual sound, the high pitch squeeky sound at that, its not until the reed is insert into the body of the chanter that the bigger sound is produced, the soundwave travels up and down the chanter wall as well as the chanter bore which also acts as ...

Without any doubt, hard & softwoods produce different resonances because of there fibre scructure, go and clank some different peices of wood together, and the penny will drop, it very simple understand. :really:

My mate has one of your B chanters up here in Yorkshire and it played very very nicely Brendan, it has a elder reed in it if I'm not mistaken and it also sounded as good of any B chanter I've heard, infact I will personaly say this! it is the best B chanter I've played so far by ten or so different ...

The Eb flat chanter is of the narrow bore size? around 14" inch in length, I think you may need a narrower staple bore size, some where around this I would have thought, staple length 45-46 mm, ID 3.20mm -3.30mm, eye height 1.30mm -1.50mm, mind you I mainly only play Concert pitch so I'm no Gur...

I think G is the lowest key of the Uillleann pipes or is it the Pastrol pipes, Ronan Brown has a G chanter made by Peter Hunter,or something like that? so the story go's, Sam will correct me if I'm wrong, all the best.

unregulated asked? what make of chanter is he playing on, I think its a Leo Rowsome concert D chanter he is playing, but I could be wrong about the maker. all the best.

Finbar certainly gets some lovely sounds out of that chanter, that set has a sound of its own, I have a few of Finbar's early albums were his pipe playing is truly amazing, having good cane is the secret of good reeds as finbar says, but he's certainly shown me a few tricks. all the best.
