Yes it was a lovely player, and hopefully still is! The flutist who puchased it was most happy. The keywork was especially nice. It had a very nice quality feel to it that is difficult to discribe but unmistakable when you hold it.

I'd second that, I've seen quite a few of these flutes in music shops around London, normally priced between £100 - £150.

I've always had my heart set on a McChud, I'm drawn to that formless beauty and unworldly tone. But on reflection a Paddy McChud is just too much of a flute for me, instead I'd hire a hitman to whittle down that long waiting list for a keyed Wilkes.

Thanks I'll check that out - I've been listening to the version recorded by Stockton's Wing on their Crooked Rose album.

I'd like to put forward a tune for the treatment. It's a simple jig called rose among the heather. You can see the notes here: http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/4672/thenotesxj6.th.jpg I find this tune annoyingly difficult to get any life/lift into it - especially the first part. Hope someone can chi...

It's an MK whistle, it's the one Misha used on a couple of his albums with Croft no Five - he was kind enough to sell it to me (I couldn't afford a new one).

Low D Newbie

I've recieved my first low D today. I've been playing flute for a year or so and thought a low D would be nice to learn tunes on before moving them over to the flute. The reach to the D seems to be a bit aggravating on my fingers, is this something that is going to ease up over time (I've never felt...

Something tells me I should give up smoking - 12 seconds on my best D. I'm thinking perhaps I should incorporate a bit of long tone practise into my schedule. First round to you lilt - well done

Good question. My experience is based on blackwood and cocus wood flutes. I have a number of antique flutes, examining the tone holes I can see little evidence of wear. You can see 'slight' marking around the embouchure on most flutes - antique and modern. I was examining a friend's flute (modern) t...
