I've decided against the pakistani flute thing, but I'm still none the wiser about what to get. . JebusPaul, First flutes is one of the favorite topic on the board. I started with the Dixon 3-piece poly; it has been a good flute for me. The Dixon you linked is not usually recommended as the best ch...

What I'd like to know is if anybody's seen one of the Pakistani cases up close. If the prices on these things drop any more, I'm gonna buy one, throw the flute away, and keep the case.

While your studying vintage, you may want to add this site. http://www.oldflutes.com/ It has some great information which also includes flutes that look close but are not what trad players are generally looking for. I like vintage flutes and I can see myself dabbling in them, but I think new players...

Very true for me Berti.

I used the flute to help me quit smoking 2.5 years ago, and it has accepted its role with zeal. I think it's the whole hand/mouth thing.

So, it's everyday, twice a day, or I get cranky.

Glinjack, The objections raised by others are valid: The flutes seem overpriced and a website with no "real world" contact is immediately suspect. To my mind, you have not adequately addressed the apparent commercial nature of you presense. You should know that we are flute players on this...

First ever was an Eric the FLuteMaker pentatonic "D". Still have, still play it. It's perfect for rainy Thursday mornings. Then came Tony Dixon's 3-piece. I keep this one assembled and laying on the desk for doodl'n and such. I still like it, but I would probably go a different direction t...

Nitterwhisker, Also you may consider that superglue comes in different thicknesses and set-up times. Fretted instrument repairers keep an assortment on hand. Thin when you need flow, thick when you need to bridge, fast when it can't be clamped, thick when it can... and so on. A search for "cyan...

Hey Loren, Sorry your abandoning the topic. I felt most posters agreed with the idea that Irish flutes weren't that expensive. For me, not knowing the construction aspects, the conclusion was based on intrinsic value. Anything that can make such beautiful sound should be priceless. I for one would s...

Some poor fellow is aspiring to a six key flute. <<Snip>>If he were to acquire a cheapish sound French flute he might discover that they tended not to send out junk, so a repadding and if necessary a little superglue could keep him happy for years ! Andrew, since seems to allude to me, I'll respond...

I agree with TinTin. Irish flutes are dang cheap. Wouldn't the cost of a professional level violin bow get you a concert level flute? At least one? I wonder if the fact that the best flutes are so affordable doesn't hurt the overall flute scene by shifting the focus away from the music. I sometimes ...
