I voted for: Old Archive recordings/restorations. I envision: Wooden Flute Obsession IV -- Under the Influence . A double CD collection of private, restored, and (where absolutely necessary) recreated recordings dedicated to the most influential flute music of the 20th century. Each track would, of ...

Ouch...That's awful.

On the way to perform no less. Talk about a nightmare. Did you have a back-up ready?

Is it truly beyond repair? Modern adhesives are a wonder in the right hands. Maybe you could have it repaired or replicated.

Rotten luck, sorry.

I decided that my flute is just a tool. It doesn't have a name. However, I believe that, by some happy accident, a flute can be made that matches me so perfectly that it may well deserve a name. Aquisition obsession is the search for that flute, and I think I may have just contracted the disease. By...

I like where this thread has lead us: Keep a "beginner's mind" and let the tunes choose you. That's as good a direction as any for building repertoire. I think.

p.s. Rama -- I have been playing flute for just a bit over two and a half years.

. jack coen once said it takes years to be able to play with a sense of ease and comfort. . Had you ask me when I first started if 2.5 years was a long time, I would have said yes. Looking back, it seems like nothing. Honestly, I'm just now at a place with the instrument where I can really get star...

Rama,
Sometimes my intuition says "Play more"; sometimes it says "Practice more"; always it says "Listen closer".
And you are absolutely correct...the sooner I take heed, the better.

I also use the Snips pages for help with tunes. It's surprising the number of times I've had ABCs for a tune and found a posting someone playing it. Yes, Cathy, I have definitely got to get to town this summer. Of course, it is possible I'll show up with a bunch of solo material, but there's really ...

That's great news. Hopefully, with a bit more patience, it will all be set right.

Jim, sounds like a great day.

Busking is definitely cool. Something about the people, the music, the outdoors in spring. Just cool.
That would be a good goal for me this summer, find a busking location and give it a go.

Glad you had a good day.

, I just start by trying to follow along, putting the player on repeat so I can practice. (And probably annoy the heck out of the neighbors). I do this with the MfT tunes. I play along with Seamus trying to get accustomed to listening as I play. This has helped me with my #1 fault: Breaking time wh...

Choosing Tunes?

I am wondering how everyone chooses tunes to learn. At first, I learned what was on the MadforTrad disc. After that, I used a list of regional session tune that Cathy Wilde (thanks Cat) drew up. That went well for a while, but I found it took me a while to get excited about each new tune and so the ...

Hey Big T, I would consider it a personal favor if we didn't start grading for punctuation. I spend enough time on the board without having to draft my responses. Oh, and by the way, AndrewK wrote in the "flute study" thread a week ago: "You seem to be a rogue, Glinjack, and would be ...

Brazenkaine, I'm sorry about your flute and hope it all turns out well. UPS certainly has gone down hill fast. I once recieved a putter in a box with the end totally torn off. The only thing holding the club in the box was a complementary hat they had sent. Or, how about the time I got a guitar that...
