Re: 115 year old O'Mealy set for sale

I like the bag. I have never seen one like that - should not choke itself.

Re: What is a Rowsome Style Chanter

I'm just curious, since the subject is up...if a quality maker - goes out of his/her way to make an "exact" copy of a particular chanter - seeing it as worthy of the effort because it is arguably "the best" know example but then has to insert rush(es) up the bore to make it work ...

Re: 115 year old O'Mealy set for sale

...quite a find, and that is an interesting idea for the tie-in on the bag at the windcap.

Re: D Full Set Measurements

If it still matters, the mountain dulcimer case I have at home and use for the C set is about the size of the larger one that I linked. I also have a D set by the same maker, with an upright bass reg bar, and I'd think (though I have not tried) it will also fit in the same case - perhaps with the ba...

Re: D Full Set Measurements

You might want to consider a mountain dulcimer case (hard sided). I have one that I can fit a C set into, with an upright bass reg bar. I have to take that off, as well as the bass drone slide. If tight (from other junk) I take off the bari slide as well. The bellows fit nicely in the larger end, ne...

Re: 3D Printing and Chanter Reeds?

Unless the mechanical properties (density, elasticity, etc.) and acoustic properties (however quantified) of the plastic and cane/elder/spruce/etc are the same or very similar, I'd think you'd only get a plastic thing that looks like a reed. The "tying on" of the slips alone creates mechan...

Re: Wanted:Concert D Chanter

A few years ago I met a maker who lives in Colorado. He has learned to make reeds for your climate. I'm not sure that he can sell you a chanter for $200, but he can probably help you with a stable reed, at least. I know he has a website...but I can't recall his name, sadly.

And there are a few (but very few) piper-types in the Houston area, if you like the tropical humidity of summer...about 110% this morning.

I can't believe that no one has mentioned "a wood chipper" in this thread. I've had the thought.

Re: Kelleher Pipe Bags

So what is with those really nice looking shoes they sell on the Kelleher website? It says they are Italian made, but they seem very inexpensive...too inexpensive...made by elves overnight when the shop closes? Is there an Eastern European sweatshop in the back? How do they do it? Has anyone bought ...

Re: Syringa

Just curious - about how long does it take for green donax cane (for reeds) to dry/cure? Is there a better time of year to cut these? Also, has anyone noticed any difference between normal cane (solid green), variegated cane (green with white stripe) or even albino (solid white) cane? Other than col...

Re: Shipping reeds in winter

Is the issue here about shipping reeds? Have you considered a stout, air-tight container shipped in a well-padded box? I've seen plastic containers in sporting goods stores that are for locking up wallets, cell phones, etc. to keep them dry and safe for hiking, biking, camping, water-sports, etc. Th...

If you suffer from a "wide F# octave" in particular this s worth a try.
Could you explain what you mean by this - problem & possible solution?
