In the process of learning:

The Boys of Ballisodare
Kiss the Maid Behind the Barrel
Anderson's
Earl's Chair

Recent, but now in pretty good shape:

Liverpool Lou
Stack of Barley
Little Stack of Wheat

and after reading this thread, I guess I might want to put a Brian Pickell waltz on the list!

If you are not familiar with the Cape Breton group, Puirt a Baroque, you might want to check them out. I love their Cd, 'Bach to Cape Breton'.

Thanks for the info. I will let you know if I hear of anyone else.

Loretto has been nominated for a Juno Award (Canadian Music Awards) for best instrumental album of the year (Celtic Reverie). This is her second year in a row. She is going to make me copies of the back Celtic College Cds.

I was talking with Loretto Reid (she teaches there) last week and she said that the organizers have been away, but are due home shortly, so I am sure we will see something soon. John, while who is performing and who is teaching is important, there is so much more to that week....I guess I would say ...

Sol, I did! She certainly knew most of the names. She seemed not to know about that Cd and wants to hear it when I get it. The neat thing is that when I was talking to Phillippe on the phone I mentioned Loretto's name and he remembered hearing her play in Ireland in the late seventies. His memory su...

I hear you Azalin. Thanks for taking the time to explain your self. I did use sheet music almost exclusively when i first started and it did serve a purpose for me. I learned a lot of the patterns of notes that seem to come up over and again. I now have those in my muscle memeory. And now that I can...

Sol, I did not at mean to imply that you are a snob......of course we should listen to the best we can. And it is not Great Big Sea! The snobbery comment as meant about those who are such purists that their way is THE only way to learn. Thanks for the tip about The Mountain Road. I shall look for th...

Tina, I have managed to find a few loops that might fit in with a traditional band. Proloops has bodhran jig patterns and also pan flute stuff. This is the first I have found that even remotely could be considered Irish.

Sheesh! Some of you guys make it sound that one must go to Ireland and sit at the feet of the masters, or only listen to the recordings of someone's deemed authentic gurus. I think there is a bit of snobbery winding its way through this thread. I am am amateur, one of no particular talent, and a rel...

Gemini, Did you try to add loops to what you had recorded? How did you get the tempo to match? I have listened to some attempts at Celtic sounding music on Garageband sites, but nothing has sounded too authentic. That is why I am looking for some loops of fiddles (other than Nordic) or appropriate g...

Thanks digbee..I thought so. Maybe PC users don't recognize it as it bundled into iLIfe. I think they can't stand that Mac users get all this neat, integrated stuff free.
