Another option is to search out clubs that have loaner sets. The club in Seattle has a number of sets that they loan out to people who want to try them out. (At least they used to.) It might be worthwhile checking this option out if money is tight. This way, if you end up deciding that the pipes are...

I wrote an article for The Pipers' Review ages ago about making double-reeds from spruce. I made a number of them and found them to make a rather mellower sounding reed. I didn't think they were really suitable for chanters, but work pretty well in regulators. They aren't any stiffer or louder than ...

O'Reagan Half-Set for Sale

Hi, One of the local pipers who suffered a shoulder injury a few years ago has decided to kick the piping habit and concentrate on other instruments. So, her O'Reagan half-set is up for sale. The asking price is CAN$600 or best offer. Contact Kate at kate_macaree@hotmail.com if you have any question...

There are some pictures of Eoin and his pipes at the BC Uilleann Pipers' Society website at http://www.angelfire.com/bc2/uilleann. Select Events, then scroll down to the bottom and look under the Spring 2003 Meeting.

I've seen this a number of times and never really understood it. Does anyone have any further insight into what exactly this means?

Greg, is Casey and Finnegan there just for Casey Burns' sake? :D I have a Casey Burns flute in mopane that is very well made. I wasn't aware that he had dabbled in UPs. I don't know if the high quality of his flutes is any measure of his pipemaking abilities. djm Everyone else was changing their av...

This is one of the very few (if not only) sets of uilleann pipes that Casey made. They have bounced around to quite a few different owners in Victoria, and even spent some time sitting in a pawn shop. At one point, before I got my current Moore set, I was considering pruchasing them. They were event...

In the latest issue of The Pipers' Review, David Quinn posed a very similar question in an article he wrote - part IV on making hand stitched bellows. His general opinion is that he doesn't like metal hinges, and provides some details (and nice pictures) on an alternative hinge design that he likes ...

There used to be a session at The Bent Mast in James Bay on Tuesday nights. I have no idea if it is still going though. Whistles can probably still be found at Old Town Strings ( http://www.oldtownstrings.com/ ) at Market Square. It is where I bought my first ever whistle, which of course began the ...
