I know you're writing about Ottawa, but I'll see you in Winnipeg, Tom. I'm looking forward to meeting you. (And hoping that the squeal on my bottom D goes away sometime today.)

Hm.. all I need is a hunting license, an elk tag, a .30-06, and a bull elk... Then it's all over except for mixing the elk's brain and the urine you've saved over the last several weeks, smooshing that stuff all over the skin, laying it in a puddle for a week or two, then stretching, drying and scr...

Hey again;

Both bags that I have are L&M, but the first one developed a leak. I think it's because when I first got the half set I was placing waaaay too much pressure on the bag. But hey, live and learn, right?

Hey Key o' D; I don't know about you, but with the bag I replaced, I noticed that the neck of the bag was often in a more or less 's' shape. Having a larger bag put that 's' into more of a straight line. (Thinking about it, it's more about the longer neck than the size of the bag.) That helped a lot...

Bag replacement

Hey all; Over the last year I'd thought that I was losing muscle mass. It took more and more air to keep the pipes playing. Over this last winter my set got ah.... cantankerous, shall we say? I was exhausting myself and my use of the drones was decreasing. Yesterday I spent some time and checked eve...

...demonstrating the tight ACA triplet used in the second octave... How in Hades' green and cool ponds does one do that? A tight second octave ACA triplet? I could hear it (especially because I've listened to lots of Patsy Touhey lately) but I'd always assumed what I heard was an open triplet, like...

Sooooo...... I'm not the only one then, eh? I don't have enough dirty reeds to test each one of these methods empirically. Here's an idea. Send me all your best reeds and I'll test these methods. Of course to ensure that there are improvements you'll have to send your pipes along too. I assure you t...

Reed Cleaning?

Over the last couple of months, my reed has been going further and further south. It's been down to -53C (with wind chill) a couple of times so the reed's touchiness was no surprise. Today the back d was a horrible, wretched ghost of itself. I was going to tighten the bridle when I noticed something...

A while back, I heard someone say about Johnny Doran that he had no interest in being a piper, as he was too interested in making music (or something to that effect). I tried to figure out what this meant and think it means that he didn't get overwhelmed with the technique of piping but was more co...

Hey all; I got lucky a while ago and picked up one of the Pro-Tec Bass Clarinet cases. My D half set fits in there nice and pattotie (what?); all I have to do is push the bass drone in a bit. The chanter sits nicely in the 'spare bits' box now that I've done a little surgery on it and there's enough...

Actually, a one-dimensional creature couldn't play a two-dimensonal set, because (he said pedantically) one dimension cannot wrap itself around two dimensions (being a single infinitesimally small point in space), excepting of course in a black hole or singularity, if you will. And they suck and nev...

Hey Joe; Haven't been around here too often, so I didn't read this thread until Saturday am. Been there myself man, and it's no fun, but keep up your life and don't forget to love. It's easy to shut that off when you've been Hurt Real Bad. More pithy, I'm-far-away-and-cleverer-than-you-are advice av...
