Re: Alternate Ways to Get C Sharp on a Low G Whistle?

Thank you for that correction Peter. You have captured what I meant. As always, i am much easier to get along with when I am wrong.

I will try that suggestion.

Alternate Ways to Get C Sharp on a Low G Whistle?

Hello Fipplers: I was wondering if there are alternatives to half holing the "C" hole (third from top) on a Low G Whistle in order to get a clean C-Sharp. The links to that Turquoise Teleford/Full Body Burn site did not work and there was a message that indicated that the account had been ...

Re: Transcription of Ashokan Farewell for A Whistle?

My thanks to all for the input. It is easier for me to play the tune than to notate it. Go figure. I am using key of g played on an A whistle and it works though I make some different high/low octave choices than are shown on the converted abc notation. I agree that abc notation, on its face, is not...

Re: Transcription of Ashokan Farewell for A Whistle?

Thank you Bill and thank you David. Alas, this is what happens when one begins the study of music at the age of 53....and I assure you, that was long ago and far away. I am returning to the Green Reservation after a foray into the dreaded Rock & Roll. It will feel good to get home when I get the...

Re: Transcription of Ashokan Farewell for A Whistle?

Hello David: Thank you for that. That appears to be the ABC version of the tune that one would follow if playing a D whistle. I am looking for sheet music that one would use when playing an A whistle but pretending one is playing a D whistle. Thus, the first two notes--the 'pick-up' notes in the fir...

Transcription of Ashokan Farewell for A Whistle?

Hello C & F Folks: I am in need of a workable transcription of "Ashokan Farewell" for the "A" Whistle. Transcribing the first part, including the two different endings (last two measures) has not been that difficult, but there are sections of the B part (if you will) that, be...

Chords for "Farewell to Glasgow"

Hello C & F'ers: A guitarist friend is seeking the chords to the tune "Farewell to Glasgow." I believe he has them figured out, but he would like to verify his take. We are using the 'dots and lines' from the Session site with an ear to the excellent version of the tune done by Seamus ...

Re: Sheet Music For "The Coast of Malabar" (Cooder/Chieftains)

Indeed, I have long loved the music that Ry Cooder has involved himself with. An acquaintance who shares that view provided me with a link to a 1987 performance in Santa Cruz that I think is one of the best live shows of that decade. WARNING: It Ain't Irish/Celtic/Scot. I think the brief intro he pr...

Re: Sheet Music For "The Coast of Malabar" (Cooder/Chieftains)

Hello Mack, Phil and Normski: To be sure, one of the great things about c and f is the always warm welcome of old friends. Another is the joy of making new ones. Thanks for the replies. That sheet music is most beautiful and transposing it to e-flat major--if I have that right--is, arguably, within ...

Sheet Music For "The Coast of Malabar" (Cooder/Chieftains)

Hello: Long time, no post. A while back I went over to the 'dark side' (actually, the shiny side--the 'silver' flute). I am starting with slow and easy tunes that I have familiarity with on the whistle. Therefore I am looking for the sheet music for 'The Coast of Malabar' as it is found on the Long ...

Re: Low D for small hands?

Since the Piper's Grip and Offset Hole solutions have been addressed by minds keener than mine, I will offer up what worked for me: a Tony Dixon whistle, one of which Slow Air showed me at a Northeast Whistler's Gathering at the Sweets' wonderful location north of Hartford, Ct. a few years back. It ...

Re: Hello From Tom D. in Brooklyn

Hello Gary: Indeed, good to check back in. I still use that fine D/C Combo whistle of yours. My recollection--ever dimming, at that, is that I got it from Philo with the D body and subsequently acquired the C body separately from you. Indeed, a fine whistle. For sure, in my case, taking up strings a...
