Irish Arts Week

Wow. That was a nice week. I just returned home today. I had classes with Brian McNamara and a bit with Jerry O'Sullivan. Lovely time and I really enjoyed the music. The food, of course, leaves much to be desired as do the showers, accomodations, and cell phone reception. But the human company was l...

Bass regulator

Droner, I personally prefer the traditional bar-style.

Those quicktime video clips

I know this is *slightly* off topic, but since it has to do with said video clips . . . I can get them to play on my cable internet connection but the sound is very wavery and choppy. Does anyone have any suggestions to remedy this?

Hey Stuart. I do have Lasairfhíona's CD. It's okay; I do like it but it doesn't bring me to new levels of existene. :) She's a talented singer, surely, and it's a nice recording.

Best,
Jonathan

Etcetera . . .

Folks, the two parties involved in this issue have been put in touch with each other and events seem to be working out. Let us put an end to the discussion and allow the two parties to conduct their business. (And yes, my note, by its nature, is a continuation of that which I hope to see ended.) Reg...

Reaching them discombobulators

I play a 3/4 set in D. When I've played in the past, typically, the stock and associated equipment (since the position of the stock will, logically, dictate where the drones and regulators fall) lay across my lap, not quite horizontally but nearly. I find, with this position, that all regulators are...

Trad

Or did you want us to get very specific? If so, you should indicate any preferences for Solo flute (with or Without accompaniment), traditional vs. some non-traditional, etc. Mr. Krell . . . While I'm open to anything for the experience, I prefer listening to solo, unaccompanied, traditional music....

Traditional solo flute recordings

Could folks recommend solo recordings of traditional flute players?

Dicky Deegan

Personally, I really enjoy Deegan's pipering. With that said, I prefer The River of Gems to An Phib . I think that the former is more musically nice (?) than the latter. I think he's a very competant piper and is quite talented. However, I do tend to think, especially with the latter release, that h...

Write to Rob Forkner. Or maybe he'll see the thread. He probably knows the folks around the hill country.

Stuart
Thanks Stuart, and all, for the suggestions.

Cheers,

traditional musicians in Texas

Howdy. A newly-moved-to-Texas-friend informed me of some musicians (thought there were pipers involved, too) in her area of San Antonio/Austin. Wondering if any of them are online, or if folks know of a traditional music community there?

Texan Pipers

Out of curiosity, are there any pipers down in the San Antonion/Austin area of Texas? I was informed by a friend that she had heard of a few.

(Or, frankly, any traditional musician.)

case for sale

I just purchased a mandolin case for my pipes and I no longer need my other case. This "other" case is the one that Seth Gallagher sells on his website. I believe they're $110.00. Minus a "Pipers' Gathering" sticker, mine is in perfect condition and I would like to have someone u...

Mac, find the tune in ten different books and you'll find ten different "simple" versions of the tune. Its worth it to run through them all to appreciate the differences. Then try to guess which version is the original, and which versions are actually variations. I'm not kidding. It can g...
