Were bead scrapers used, or was it turned freehand with something like a skew? You should really get your hands on David's CD-ROM "On Pipes and Pipemaking." He goes into great detail in his article "Beading" on just exactly how he approaches this task: http://members.cox.net/box...

My sister teaches preschool a few blocks from here, so I played for her class of 3- and 4-year-olds. They asked lots of good questions, danced their little heads off, and collapsed on their mats for a nap. I gave my sister a big hug and beat a retreat, but not before collecting my pay in cupcakes. Wasn't it interesting to hear (and sing along with) a Canadian lumberjack version of the Sailor's Alphabet? Yes, Barry O'Neill led this as a singalong, between Ivan Goff's and Kevin Rowsome's performances. A fine juxtaposition of cheerful text with dour melody. What was really hilarious about this ...
